Chapter 69
Emily
With a burst of Emilyotians, 1 stormed through the halls of the mansion, towards the bedroes. Les traded behet per a bad experted f
puppy.
The audacity of Alessio’s reaction at the hospital made my ears team. I derstood that he was not in the of mind werband by the les of his uncle–but that didn’t excuse any of his lies
I wasn’t going to push away my feelings because there was more important traff going on. No
The more I thought about it, the more it hit me that if Alesus had told me about his visit to jaum, I could’ve at lead warned him with what bar dealing with
I could’ve warned him to keep an eye on him, and it wouldn’t have gotten to this
Jason’s fearless behavior was something I was all too familiar with, and Alessio underestimated. I knew why he did. It was here he most l thought he was pathetic–which was right, but he was not weak
I wasn’t even going to start about the tracker in that ring. See, that part was just ridiculous.
Coming to the mansion was supposed to be the right decision for Naty’s safety, and it still was–but it wasn’t that much safer. If Jason was capable of killing someone like Stefano, then who was I?
I thought I was done living in fear, but I was wrong. Thankfully, Naty was unaware of the dark reality. As far as she was concerned, Caan had gotters into a bad accident, and Uncle Stefano had sadly passed away, Giulia was a good woman, and I had nothing but respect for her. She had gone out of her way to shield both Naty and Melody from the truth, and despite her own grieving, kept thEmily occupied.
I stopped in front of the door, spinning around to find Levi standing way too close. “What?” I snapped, frustrated, my voice dripping with sarcasm “You’re going into the room with me to make sure I don’t jump out the window because Alessio told you to?”
At this point, Donni and Levi were not that different from Alessio. They were undeniably aware of the tracker in the ring, and I bet our entire friendship was based on a lie as well.
“I’m not your enEmilyy, Emily,” Levi responded quickly, his gaze shifting around the hallway before he surprisingly took my hand and gently pushed
me into the room. “Trust me.”
“I’m not trusting any of you anymore.”
“And that’s a good thing,” Levi let out a sad chuckle. “If you really want to leave this place with your daughter–all you need to do is tell me.” His words were unexpected, but full of shit.
There was no way he could go above Alessio’s order and get me out of here.
Even if he could, where would I go? Jason would probably kidnap me before I could even find a place to stay, no joke. He really would. The risks were too high, and even though I said I wanted to leave–I wasn’t that stupid.
Also, what Alessio and I had was real and the argument, or the tracker didn’t change my love for him. I still believed in us. He just had to be honest,
that was all.
I shook my head slowly, dismissing the thought. “I’m good,” I muttered.
“Are you one hundred percent sure?” Levi asked, his eyes searching mine for any hint of doubt.
“Yes,” I spoke. “I’m not going anywhere. So you guys can rest now.”
“Alright, I’ll be right outside if you need me,” Levi took a step back. “Call down and then spend some time with your daughter. I know you don’t want her to see you like this, but it will cheer you up.”
I almost felt bad when he left the room because I could tell he meant every word of it, but then I rEmilyinded myself of the tracker. He wasn’t that
innocent.
Yet, I followed his advice and spent the rest of my day with Naty and Melody. Although the girls were as cheerful as usual, they had clearly toned it

down a notch. It seEmilyed like all the energy in the mansion was gone, including that of the Emilyployees
Naty and Melody created paintings to dedicate to Uncle Stefans. The girls told me Giulia said he would like to take something like that to heaven. It was hard, hearing young kids who shoddn’t have to deal with a loss talk about something like that, especially when you fait partly responsible
Naty worked so hard on her painting, not knowing the one who took his life was her own dad. She could never find out
By bedtime, the girls were cuddled against each other in Melody’s bed. Naty barely slept in her own room as the two had become inseparable, but I didn’t mind. It was nice for her to have a friend around
As they fell asleep, I was pushed back to reality. It was time for me to go to bed as well, and I knew for a fact Alessio would be there I saw him get out of his ear earlier when he had arrived.
I was nowhere neat close to forgetting those words he had said to me at the hospital. My love for him was no joke, it really wasn’t–hot him telling me my feelings didn’t matter after finding out what I did, and talking about my past, made me question everything we had.
Leaning against the door. I took a deep breath to collect myself, not knowing what was waiting for me on the other side. After gathering some courage, I pushed the door open.
The moment I did. Alessio was right there and our eyes locked instantly. I wasn’t supposed to look at him, he wasn’t supposed to look at me–but we did. It was like we both knew what the other was thinking, and neither of us liked it. I rolled my eyes, turning away as he did the same. Then I headed straight for the bathroom.
After taking a bath to clear my mind, I made my way to bed. Alessio was already laying on his side and the barrier between us was just as big as it was the first time.
Alright, so this was what it was going to be like?
I almost grunted, maintaining a noticeable distance, same as he had. Part of me wished he would’ve come in with a different attitude. I was tired, physically and mentally. I didn’t have any time for this.
Alessio turned off the light, then his night light, his message clear. I did the same, and turned off mine.
I tried not to react, but as the seconds ticked by, I realized this wasn’t right. The silence, the distance–I thought we were past that, and now we were taking several steps backwards.
That’s the reason why I turned my light back on and sat up.
“Aye!” I tapped his shoulder repeatedly until he had turned around to face me, giving me a questioning look.
“Turn the lights back on, we have to talk.”
