Chapter 58
Alessio
For a second, the car was filled with silence, but then Donni broke into laughter. “You must be fucking joking. Levi, are you hearing this guy?” I couldn’t tell whether he was amused or just extrEmilyely
concerned.
He had known me the longest, knew how much I enjoyed the presence of various women without tying myself down to one. I always said the thought of falling in love made me want to puke–so I understood why he was weirded out.
The idea of me, Alessio Fanucci, falling in love was too absurd to accept.
“Bro, that just doesn’t make sense,” Donni reacted, not even trying to accept the situation. “It’s clear the two of you have been fucking like rabbits all day, but love? That’s a big word.”
“I know. I’m not the type of person to just randomly say shit. You know that,” I spoke, irritated. It wasn’t something that came out of the blue. It was something that had been on my mind for days, and now I could finally come to term with it.
I was in love with Emily. Deeply in love.
I loved the way I could talk to her, I loved her awkward and quirky traits, I loved her good heart, I loved the way she loved her daughter, how she brightened my day, could make me smile with just one look–and I could go on and on all day.
The point was, I loved her, and that was that.
“Did you tell her you love her?” Levi asked carefully, knowing Donni had already triggered me to the point where the wrong thing could make me snap.
“No, I haven’t. I’ve just decided that I love her,” I said, only to hear the bone–crushing sound of Donni’s laughter again.
“You decided something like that on the spot?” he said. “If that’s the case, then it’s not real. You think you love her–but you just love fucking her-”
I warned him, “Watch your mouth.”
“I am watching my mouth.” Donni spoke. “I know you, Alessio. I know you better than you know yourself, and that’s why I’m trying to help you. This is not like you–wake up!”
I glanced at Levi, who had been trying his best to stay out of it. Donni thought I was insane, but Levi’s

stance was still unclear.
Not that either one of their opinions mattered to me.
“How about your arrangEmilyent? Aren’t you supposed to let her go at some point?” Donni hit me with another question.
“I don’t know what I’m doing, all I know is that I love her and I don’t want her to leave my side. Ever,” I decided. The thought of letting her and Naty go without my protection was unbearable.
“You don’t want to bring her into this life. She has a daughter,” Levi couldn’t keep quiet any longer, but his hypocritical comment only added fuel to the fire.
“Then do you want me to send her back onto the streets so she can get back with that abusive asshole and be his punching bag again?” I began losing my cool.
“I don’t think she’s safe either way, but her chances would probably be better. You’re busy and won’t always be there to protect her–I’m just saying,” Levi responded, and I was getting sick of his smart–ass behavior. It was bearable at first, but now that it was used against me, I wanted to punch him in the face.
“You know what–I actually don’t want to hear what either one of you has to say,” I raised my voice, finally having enough. “If I wanted your fucking opinion, I would’ve asked for it,” I added harshly.
“Well then, don’t go around sharing your fucking feelings like a sad bitch, if you don’t want to hear our opinion!” Levi raised his voice, expressing his anger.
It was the first time I had heard him raise his voice at anyone, and I was unsure whether to be impressed
or angry.
It was shocking, but also a bit refreshing because I didn’t know he could do that.
Donni and I shared a glance, then we broke down laughing. “You know you’re a true piece of shit when you manage to piss off Levi,” Donni said.
I patted Levi’s shoulder, who still had his eyes on the road and his jaw clenched. I must’ve really struck a nerve. “I didn’t know you had that in you, but it’s good–you’ll need it,” I told him.
If the situation weren’t as hilarious, I would’ve beaten the shit out of him right now.
“I want to give you one last piece of advice, and then I’ll shut up about it—but don’t go all Levi on me,” Donni joked, referring to his outburst.
“I’ll try,” I spoke, although my patience had been worn thin because of these two.
“You put a whole tracker in her ring, lied to her about her ex by not coming clean about beating him back to Texas–and if you do believe you love her, you’ll have to come clean at some point. By now it’s probably

too late, so when she finds out she’ll be pissed, Donni satt, laying one the dinous trar I had less trying
to avoid.
Those were not small lies, but both were for her safety. Anyone who contat suterand that hard to g their brains checked in a lab. I didn’t had any bad intention.
“There’s no need to tell her all of that. She won’t find out. She can only find out if someone tells her, and the only two who know are you two, rigar
The car fell silent, a bit too silent for my liking
“Right?” I pressed, needing to hear thEmily say it.
“Yeah, right.” Levi said.
“I won’t tell,” Donní agreed.
It was selfish of me to ask thEmily to keep quiet, and selfish of me not to want to come dean Being selfsh was something I had been for most of my life, and whenever necessary, I would continue to do so.
All their advice went in one ear and out the other. There was one thing I wasn’t going to do, and that was take love advice from Levi, who hadn’t made any effort to see his daughter, or from Donni, who was
Donni.
There was only one piece of advice I would follow, and that was my own.
