Dante’s POV
I leaned back in the chair, resting my forearms on the armrests as I surveyed Aiden.

Joseph had left the room a while ago, and the silence between Aiden, Caius, and me was palpable. I could feel the tension thrumming in the air, as though the very room was holding its breath.
Aiden finally broke the silence. “Are you insane?” he asked, his voice low but filled with barely–contained horror. “You must be. Asking me for something like that.”
I tilted my head slightly, letting a small, knowing smirk tug at the corners of my lips. “Ah, but you are the perfect candidate, aren’t you? You hate the Wolfe family. You hate Jaxon. Hate how he had everything you didn’t, even with that shitty personality of his.” I leaned forward, letting my voice drop into a softer, almost conspiratorial tone. “Do you think he deserves to be the pack Alpha?”
Aiden’s silver eyes darkened as he stared at me, his jaw tight. “If not him, then who else?”
“Who else?I echoed, as though the answer should have been obvious. “The one who shoulders most of the responsibility for the pack, perhaps? The one who fights the battles, who handles issues with precision and intellect—unlike Jaxon, who lets his anger and stupidity guide him.”
I could see the realization dawning on Aiden’s face, the words settling in his mind like stones sinking into water. He tried to keep his expression neutral, but the flicker of doubt in his eyes was enough for me. That small crack in his armor was all I needed.
Because the truth was clear. The only one who truly fit the description was Aiden himself.
A flicker of something passed across his face–hesitation, maybe?-before he shook his head firmly. “No,” he said, his voice steady but strained. “Absolutely not. I will not kill Jaxon.”
I raised an eyebrow, leaning back again and folding my hands in front of me. “Nobody’s asking you to kill him,” I said, my tone casual. “All I said was that I wanted him dead. I just need your small contribution, and you will have everything you’ve ever wanted.”
Aiden’s scoff was harsh, his frustration bleeding into his voice. “It’s not as easy as you make it seem. If it were, then I would have-”
He stopped himself abruptly, his lips pressing into a thin line as though realizing too late the weight of what he’d almost said.
So he had already tried.
I hid my smile, my gaze steady as I watched him carefully. “Why do you want him dead anyway?” he asked, his tone sharp, as though trying to deflect attention from his slip–up.
My teeth clenched for a brief moment before I forced myself to relax. “Because that bastard dared to lay a hand on something that’s mine,” I said, my voice low and cold.
Aiden’s eyes widened slightly. “That’s it? That’s why you’re willing to uproot one of the most prominent packs?”
I rolled my eyes, leaning forward again. “With an heir like that, the Wolfe pack will barely survive a decade. Maybe two, if we’re being generous. Jaxon isn’t the type to bear such responsibility, he isn’t capable, as I’ve already explained.” My voice

softened, almost coaxing now. “This would be for the best. You become the Wolfe Pack Alpha, you get to protect your ‘mother,‘ and you get revenge.”
Aiden’s head shook sharply, his hands gripping the edge of the table. “Even….even if I took over, you should know damn well that the one in charge wouldn’t be me,” he said bitterly. “And even if something were to happen to Jaxon, there’s always Jason.”
I scoffed, waving my hand dismissively. “Jason?” My voice dripped with derision. “He’s even worse than Jaxon. A spoiled brat and a coward. Dealing with him won’t be an issue either. As for you being your father’s marionette, you don’t have to worry about that either. That problem will be resolved as long as we take out Jaxon…..” I left the rest unsaid, if he was smart he would understand what I was implying. And I knew he was smart enough.
Drogo might have been important to the pack, but not that necessary, and he had hurt my Valencia too. So there was no way I was going to let him go unscathed.

My advantage was that Aiden’s hatred for his father might have been hidden underneath, but that didn’t mean it didn’t show. I noticed it at the wedding. His anger towards his father had been palpable. Almost murderous at one point. But he had learned to hide it well. Which was to be expected since he had been under his control for so long.
I didn’t expect Aiden to agree immediately. He was too careful for that. Too tied to his supposed “loyalties.” All I needed to do was plant the seed, show him the way out. Because things were going to go downhill soon–whether he liked it or not.
Even for me, this wouldn’t be easy. The Steele pack was powerful, yes, but the SNC council was already watching us closely. If this conspiracy were to be revealed, the council wouldn’t hesitate to strike. As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t go in guns blazing without risking my pack’s destruction.
My watch buzzed softly, pulling me out of my thoughts. I glanced down, a small smile quirking at my lips when I saw the notification: 500 cm away.
I could almost hear the faint jingling of her anklets as she approached.
Yes, I had installed a tracker in them. But could you blame me? It was for her safety–or at least, that’s what I told myself.
I stood, brushing nonexistent dust from my jacket. “Take your time,” I said to Aiden, my tone light but firm. “Call me on this number when you make a decision. But I’d advise you to hurry. Once Jaxon marries your sister, it’ll make things… difficult for you.”
Aiden’s jaw tightened, but he said nothing. I wasn’t worried. The doubt I had planted in his mind would fester, and sooner or later, he would come to me.
I walked to the door, pausing for a moment. This room was soundproof, so whatever had been discussed inside was safe. Still, I opened the door cautiously, my hand on the handle.
The door swung open, and Valencia fell forward, landing against my chest with a soft thud.
Her eyes widened in shock, her beautiful whiskey–colored gaze locking onto mine. A faint blush crept up her cheeks, and she looked almost embarrassed as she scrambled to straighten herself.
“Valencia,” I said, my voice low and amused. “Eavesdropping again, are we?”
