Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Valencia’s POV
“What?!” I spluttered, my voice an octave higher than usual
Marcy froze mid–bite, her fork hanging in the air. She didn’t look at me lant instead chose to shovel another bite of pancake into her mouth.
Without missing a beat, I fired back. “At least we’re getting laid, unlike you”
I stopped short when I saw Caius smirking, his gaze flicking meaningfully toward Marcy.
My eyebrows shot up. “Oh my God… you guys finally-”
“Not another word!” Marcy snapped, glaring at me with wide eyes. Her cheeks turned a deep shade of pink, and she jabbed her fork into her stack of pancakes with unnecessary force.
I couldn’t help it. A small giggle bubbled up in my throat, and I moved to sit next to her. Before I could, Dante’s hand tightened around my wrist.
“Where are you going?” he asked, his voice low but firm.
“Uh, to sit with Marcy?” I said, frowning at him.
Dante didn’t even glance at Marcy as he replied, “Miss Voss can sit with Caius.”
I rolled my eyes. “Can you stop calling her Miss Voss, by the way? It’s weird.”
Dante frowned as he took his usual seat and pulled me along to sit next to him. “She’s my employee.”
“Then call her that during work hours,” I shot back. “Right now, she’s here as my best friend. At least call her Marcelene.”
Marcy snorted. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I agree. It’s super weird to hear you call me that. I don’t think anyone has ever addressed me with such respect. It gives me chills.”
I chuckled softly, shaking my head.
Caius, however, frowned. “I honestly don’t understand your pack
“Trust me,” I said, shooting him a pointed look. “You don’t want to.”
Dante’s tone turned more serious as he shifted the conversation By the way, where’s Father?”
Caius’s expression darkened slightly, and his gaze flickered to Dante. “He’s been sick for two days,” he said. “The doctor says nothing is wrong, but…” He trailed off, his voice heavy with unease.
As the words registered, my heart plummeted.
I glanced at Marcy, and our eyes locked for a brief moment. I could see it in her face–we were both thinking the same thing.
Raiden Steele was going to die.

I pursed my lips, trying to keep my expression neutral as Caius continued speaking. Dante’s hand brushed against mine brielty grrounding me:
When breakfast ended, Dante left for work, Caius trailing after tton, leaving Marcy and rue alone in the dining say Marcy leaned back in her chair, her arms crossed as she studied me. “You don’t remember what illness he hat
I shook my head. “No. I don’t think many people in our pack did Which is strange, considering he was the leader of the enemy troops. That’s when Caius took over.”
Marcy frowned, her brows knitting together, “Why Caius? Isn’t Dante older?*
Again, I shook my head. “I really don’t know. At the time, I was newly married to Jaxon and swamped with keeping the finances of the house in check. I only helped once during the fight when things got bad–patching up soldiers, mostly. The Alphas kept me out of it otherwise.”
Marcy hummed thoughtfully, tapping her fingers against the table. “Well. Let’s wait for Raiden to get better. We have time to figure it out.”
“Do we, though?” I asked, my voice quieter now. “Alphas don’t get sick easily, Marcy. If he does have an illness, it has to be a strong one. Doesn’t that mean it might already be too late? I think we need to−”
“Whoa, wait,” Marcy cut in, holding up a hand. Her gaze was sharp as she looked at me. “Why are you so worried about them all of a sudden?”
I frowned. “What do you mean? He’s Dante’s father. The pack Alpha. Why shouldn’t I worry?”
Marcy pursed her lips, looking away. My stomach twisted uncomfortably.
“Marcy?” I said, my voice soft. “Are you… still angry at them? I know I’m not the best person to tell you this, considering I’m biased now, but the Steele pack didn’t kill your brother in this life. So why are you… and how come you’re with Caius-”
“I’m not WITH him,” Marcy snapped, her voice sharp. “It was a one–time thing. I will not have anything permanent with him.”
Her words stung, though I wasn’t sure why. My brows furrowed as I studied her face. She was avoiding my gaze, her jaw tight, and there was something there–guilt, maybe?
“Does Caius know that this was a ‘one–time thing?” 【asked softly
Marcy flinched, and the guilt in her eyes deepened.
I didn’t get a chance to say anything else before she stood abruptly, pushing her chair back with a loud scrape. “I have to go,” she said quickly, her voice clipped.

Chapter 93
“Marcy, wait!” I called after her, but she was already out the door her steps quick and purposeful.
I stared at the empty doorway, my heart sinking.
“Damn it,” I muttered under my breath.
I looked down at Castor, who was cradled in my arms, thrumming faintly in response to my agitation. I stroked his smooth surface gently, murmuring, “Sorry, baby. Mommy’s just… worried.”
Because deep down, I already knew. Things were about to go terribly wrong.
