Chapter 78

Valencia’s POV

The air in the room was heavy, suffocating. Aiden’s glare was pinned on me, sharp and piercing, as his phone hovered in his hand. I lunged forward, grabbing it from his grasp with trembling fingers

My heart pounded in my chest, my breaths shallow and uneven

No,I gasped, clutching the phone against me like it was the only thing keeping me alive

Valencia,Aiden growled, his voice low and threatening. Give it back.”

You don’t understand!I shot back, stepping away from him, my back hitting the wall. If you call a doctor, the pack Alpha will find outand then Dante will definitely find out!

So what?!Aidan snapped, his frustration bubbling over as he ran a hand through his disheveled hair. Is your life less important than him finding out? Are you seriously that reckless

I froze, his words slicing through me like a knife. My hands trembled as I hugged the phone tighter against my chest. I’d rather die,I whispered, my voice cracking

I couldn’t let Dante find out. I couldn’t risk losing Castor. But I didn’t say that last part out loud. The words lodged in throat, too heavy to force out. I couldn’t admit it out loud, but I felt too ashamed that now I couldn’t even last twenty four

my hours without someone needing to swoop in and help me

Aiden let out a sharp exhale, his expression shifting from anger to something softersomething I couldn’t quite place. He took a step back, shaking his head in disbelief

Maybe it was a mistake calling you here,” I said quietly, my voice barely audible. If all you’re going to do is make more trouble for me.” I felt guilty for saying it, especially after all he had done for me, but I needed to stop him

He stared at me for a moment, his silver eyes flashing with a mix of emotionsanger, frustration, hurt. Then he sighed, running a hand through his hair again as he began pacing the room like a caged animal

Fine,” he muttered, his voice tight. I won’t call the doctor.”

Relief flooded me, but it was shortlived as he continued

But I need to at least check your vitals,he said, his tone firm. And I’ll find you other suppressors. I’ll try contacting the Onyx packthey have more effective ones.”

I blinked at him, surprised by the determination in his voice

Aiden grabbed his phone and headed for the door, pausing for a moment as if he wanted to say something. But then he shook his head and left without another word. The door clicked shut behind him, leaving the room eerily quiet

Seriously,” I muttered under my breath. What the hell am I doing?”

I didn’t want to be a burden to anyone. I hated being a burden. But it seemed like that was all I was now. A burden a burden to Aiden, a burden to everyone

to

Marcy

exhaled shakily, the guilt still gnawing at me as I climbed back into bed. Castor’s soft glow pulsed gently beside me, a soothing presence against the turmoil in my chest

It’s just us again,I whispered, stroking the smooth surface of his egg

But the comfort was fleeting. The heat in my body flared again, sharp and unrelenting. My limbs felt heavy, my mind foggy as exhaustion crept in. I curled up with Castor, holding him close as I prayed for the heat to pass, for sleep to take me away from this forment

When I woke again, it wasn’t from the sound of the door or the ache in my bodyit was from the nightmare

I jolted awake, my breath coming in short, panicked gasps. My body was drenched in sweat, my heart racing as the images from the dream lingered in my mind

In the dream, I hadn’t been myself. I had beensomewhere else. The Steele pack mansion, but different. The gardens were muddy, the sky gray and oppressive. Three graves sat side by side in the garden, and a suffocating sense of loss weighed down on me

Who had died

My chest ached with a grief so deep and overwhelming that it felt like it would swallow me whole. And then the scene shifted

The Wolfe pack mansion. It was on fire, the corridors burning as wolf howls and screams echoed all around me. I walked through the flames, unaffected by the heat, my steps slow and deliberate

The place felt familiar yet foreign, like something from my past life

And then I smelled it. A sweet, intoxicating scent that called to me, pulling me forward

Lfollowed it through the burning corridors until I found someone lying on a bed, chained and bleeding from the mouth

My heart stopped when I realized who it was

It was me

舀

I woke up screaming, my voice raw and desperate as I sat up in bed. My body was trembling, my chest heaving as tears streamed down my face

I blinked, and suddenly I was back in the Steele pack mansion, back in our room, this time chained to our bed. The room was dark, the air thick with tension as Dante prowled toward me his movements slow and predatory

My heart raced, a mixture of fear and anticipation coursing through me. My heat flared, unbearable and consuming as I begged and cried for him to end it

But he didn’t touch me

No matter how much I begged, no matter how much I sobbed, he stayed just out of reach, his piercing blue and golden eyes watching me with an intensity that made my skin burn

The scream tore from my throat, raw and guttural as I clutched the blankets around me and woke up once again. My body was shaking, my mind a chaotic mess of fear and desperation

I couldn’t take it anymore. I wasn’t sure anymore if what I was seeing was still a dream or reality as everything merged into each other. Dream after dream

ར

In a moment of pure frenzy, I opened the connection between us, the bond that I had kept tightly shut since running away

Dante. I couldn’t help crying out for him. In that moment I felt longing with such ferocity that it felt like I was suffocating and he was the oxygen I needed to breathe

The overwhelming wave of his emotions hit me like a freight trainanger, fear, pain, longing. It was suffocating, drowning me in a sea of feelings that weren’t mine but felt just as real

And then the door burst open

I looked up, my eyes wide with fear as I clutched Castor’s egg tightly against my chest

My heart pounded as I stared at the figure in the doorway
