Chapter 114
Valencia’s POV
Alpha Selene leaned back in her chair, her posture relaxed but exuding an air of quiet authority. Her dark hair gleamed under the soft garden lights, cascading over her shoulder in smooth waves.

Despite everything that had transpired between us back at Norsor Isle, I couldn’t deny how approachable she seemed now. Her genuine smile chipped away at my lingering frustration and anger at what happened.
Selene’s smile turned wistful, her red–tinted lips curling gently. “You look exactly like Blair.”
Hearing my mother’s name from her lips sent a jolt through me. It wasn’t often that people spoke about her in such a tender voice. “How…did you meet my mom?” I asked, my voice laced with equal parts hope and trepidation.
Selene nodded. “I met Blair when she was young–your age, actually. She was an orphan by then, working at a small bar on the outskirts of a town near Ravenwood where my pack used to frequent. She had this… spark about her. A free spirit who never let the world weigh her down.”
I clung to her every word, unable to look away as she painted a picture of my mother, one so different from the harsh narratives I’d grown up hearing.
Selene continued, her gaze softening with nostalgia. “I had newly turned pack Alpha, so I remember walking into the bar one night, and there she was, twirling in the middle of the room wearing this red colored jasmine inspired outfit like no one was watching.” She smiled, pausing, “But everyone was. She had this way of drawing people in, making them feel like they were part
of something magical.”
I smiled faintly at the image, my chest tightening. “What exactly happened to her?”
I had asked Drogo this question but it had been left unanswered Lethia had once let slip that my mother died giving birth to me. However I had certain doubts about the fact’s legitimacy
Personally, I had no memories of my own mother.
Selene sighed, her expression darkening. “She deserved better, Valencia. The world wasn’t kind to her, but she made the best of it. Don’t believe what others say about her. She had a good soul.”
Her words filled a void in me I hadn’t realized was so deep. Yet my question had still been left unanswered.
Before I could voice the question again, Selene’s tone shifted, becoming heavier. “My own sister… also perished at around the same time.”
“Oh, what happened?” I asked before I could stop myself.
“She died young–from poison.”
“Poison?” I asked, my brow furrowing.
Selene’s lips pressed into a thin line before she answered. “At that time ‘Mirage‘ hadn’t been outlawed yet. And someone drugged her with it.”
My stomach churned at the familiar name. Mirage. The same pson Raiden had been using to counteract the effects of Snowmist?

I couldn’t help but shudder. Two powerful poisons in one single mortal body.

I thought of the years he must have endured that torment, his body wracked with pain, and my heart suddenly ached for him.
“Oh…I’m sorry.” I said in a voice barely above a whisper.
Selene’s gaze drifted toward the garden, her expression distant.
I wanted to ask more, to pull every thread of knowledge she had about my mother, about her sister and about Mirage. But the weight of the stares around us reminded me that we weren’t alone.
And the person I was talking to wasn’t actually a friend. Even if it had started feeling like it. Hell even if Alpha Selene didn’t look like it, I could tell she was probably as old as Roman, maybe even older.
Not to mention members of the Wolfe pack were watching, their gazes sharp and judgmental. I could feel Lethia’s searing
gaze.
Their disdain wasn’t surprising though.
I was just a nobody to them–an Omega bastard who had somehow become the mate of a powerful Alpha
Why would they want to see someone like me conversing with a figure as prominent as Selene, the Alpha of one of the strongest packs? The representative of Wolves in the SNC.
Istood, offering Selene a small smile. “Thank you for telling me about my mom,” I said softly. “I… I needed to hear that
She reached out, brushing a stray strand of hair behind my ear with a tenderness that caught me off guard. “Take care, don’t take other people’s words to heart” she said, her voice almost a whisper.
I swallowed hard, nodding before stepping away. The need for fresh air pressed against my chest, and I made my way toward the lake, eager to escape the suffocating atmosphere.
The cool night air wrapped around me as I wandered down the path, the sound of rustling leaves and distant laughter filling the quiet spaces. As I neared the lake, a flicker of silver caught my eye.
My heart skipped a beat. Among the trees, standing too close to the water’s edge, was Seven.
His pale hair flowed under the moonlight, and his slender frame seemed even smaller in the vastness of the landscape. I couldn’t help but think about the memory of his head being tossed into the water.
My pulse quickened as I hurried toward him, the sound of my footsteps crunching against the gravel.
Seven turned at the noise, his red eyes wide with something that looked like fear.
I stopped a few feet away, holding my hands up in a gesture of peace. “I’m sorry,” I said quickly. “I didn’t mean to startle you.”
He stared at me, his lips parting as if to speak, but no words came out.
My gaze fell to the plate in his trembling hands. The sight made my stomach turn.
It was the same food I had been served earlier–the prawns and salmon now chopped into uneven pieces, the rice mushed into a messy heap.

Wait, was that my plate?
“Se–Daniel,” I said gently, my voice steady despite the unease creeping up my spine. “What’s wrong?”
He didn’t answer, his red eyes glazed over as he gripped the plate tighter, A shiver ran through me as I noticed the continuous tremor in his hands. Something was wrong. Not just with him.

I stepped back instinctively, the air around us growing heavier with tension. My throat tightened as I prepared to leave, my heart pounding against my ribs.
My instincts screamed at me to leave.
But before I could move further, I stumbled into something solid.
The scent hit me first–smoke and cedar.
My heart dropped.
Jaxon.
I spun around, my stomach twisting into knots as I found myself face–to–face with him. His blue eyes gleamed with amusement, his smirk widening as he took a step closer.
“Valencia,” he drawled, his tone sickeningly sweet. “How have you been?”
Iforced a smile, my mind racing. “I’ve been well,” I replied evenly, sending a silent distress signal to Dante through our bond.
I needed him here.
Jaxon tilted his head, his smirk deepening. “I can see that. You look… pleasant. Definitely not like you were forced into this marriage.”
My smile faltered, and I turned my gaze toward the clearing where the crowd was. “Because I wasn’t,” I said firmly.
“Right, of course you weren’t,” he murmured, his tone dripping with mockery.
He held two glasses of champagne in his hands, offering one to me with a flourish. I shook my head, taking a small step back. “No, thank you,” I said, forcing another polite smile. “I need to get back. I promised Alpha Selene I’d speak with her.” I lied.
“Oh, my apologies for keeping you,” he said smoothly. “I guess I just have to share this drink with our new little ‘pet‘ instead.”
My stomach churned as his poisonous gaze shifted to Seven, who hesitated before taking the offered glass with trembling hands.
His coordination seemed off. And his pupils seemed unnaturally large, almost completely hiding his red irises.
Bile rose in my throat as I watched Seven grip the champagne flute in one hand, his plate still in the other. Something about the scene felt horribly wrong.
Jaxon’s insistence earlier that I drink the champagne…. the plate of food Seven had been eating…which was supposed to be mine…

Seven’s glassy and unfocused eyes.
A terrible thought struck me, and my heart raced.
Had Jaxon… drugged it?
