My Mother Died At My Wedding Chapter 2

“Open it in two weeks.” “Why?” he asked, bewildered. Adele enunciated each word carefully. “Because this gift will hold more meaning in two weeks.” Elias hesitated momentarily but then nodded. With a tender smile, he kissed her hand. “Whatever my wife wishes, I’ll wait for this surprise.” He grabbed a sticky note, inscribed “Open in two weeks” on it, and attached it solemnly to the box. Adele watched him quietly, her heart heavy. Elias, I hope that when the time comes, this truly feels like the surprise you expect. When dawn broke, Jack greeted Freya with his customary kiss.
“Frey, I missed our anniversary yesterday. Let me make it up to you today, alright?”
“Let’s go to the theme park. Didn’t you mention wanting to visit before?”
Freya wasn’t interested and was about to decline, but Jack had already started preparing everything, not waiting for her response. He even picked out an outfit for her.

At the amusement park, he was highly attentive to her every move. The moment her lips pressed together, he instantly offered her a bottle of water. If her eyes lingered on a stuffed toy for more than a moment, he bought it right away.
Merry-go-rounds, bumper cars, the Ferris wheel—Jack didn’t care how childish the activities seemed. As long as she was enjoying herself, he gladly participated.
He held her hand firmly the entire time, barely letting go. Even when she tried to pull away, his grip tightened, as if afraid of losing her.
At one point, he even tied a balloon to her bag with a chuckle. “This way, Frey, you’ll never wander off.”
Never wander off…
But the place she was headed this time was somewhere he would never be able to find her.
“Jack, you lost me a long time ago,” Freya wanted to say.

Their undeniable chemistry and captivating appearances naturally drew the attention of other visitors. It didn’t take long before whispers began, and someone pointed them out.
“Look! That’s Mr. Sterling and Mrs. Sterling, right? I can’t believe we’re seeing them in person! They’re so sweet together!”
A young woman gasped in excitement, practically bouncing on her toes as she tugged her boyfriend over to Freya.
“Um… could we snap a photo with you? We’re huge fans! You’re our favorite couple!”
Seeing the eager look on the girl’s face, Freya didn’t have the heart to refuse and nodded in agreement.

Jack wasn’t particularly fond of taking pictures but willingly went along with Freya’s request.
The camera clicked, and the couple beamed with enthusiasm. “You two are such a perfect pair. We’re so envious. Please stay happy forever!”
Jack smiled and gave them a courteous nod.
He never noticed that Freya stood silently beside him the entire time, saying nothing. Only she knew the truth—there was no “forever” waiting for them.

During their lunch break, Jack kept sneaking glances at his phone. Each time he met Freya’s gaze, he quickly apologized in a soft, coaxing tone.
“Frey, I’m sorry. There’s some work I need to take care of. Be a good girl and eat first. I promise I’ll make it up to you soon, alright?”
But then, an image of an opulent castle appeared on his phone screen.
He wasn’t working. He was watching a livestream.

Freya’s lips curled into a bitter smile as she quietly opened the livestream on her own phone.
It was Evelyn, an obscure online influencer Jack had recently signed to his company. Not only had he signed her, but he’d also made her the face of “Freya,” the jewelry line he claimed was a tribute to his wife.
Everyone had been speculating about how Evelyn had suddenly gained access to such high-profile opportunities. Some whispered that she must have someone influential supporting her.
They were right. That someone was Jack.

At that very moment, Evelyn was standing at the entrance of the theme park, livestreaming to her followers. She held up her phone with a smug expression, showing off her new gift.
“Look, everyone! This theme park was a present from my boyfriend. Just mention my name for a discount when you visit. Come have fun!”
Freya’s hand, clutching her phone, turned ice-cold. Her grip tightened as a cold wave seemed to sweep through her.
“This theme park… the one he brought me to… was a gift for her?” she thought.

The livestream’s comment section filled with skepticism.
“Stop lying. How could an unknown influencer like you afford a billionaire’s playground?”
“She’s just looking for attention. Without proof, anyone could stand in front of this park and claim it’s theirs.”
“You’re delusional if you think we’ll buy this. Do you have any idea how much it costs to own a place like that?”

Evelyn bit her lip, looking falsely aggrieved. “I’m not lying! Look, isn’t my name on this?”
She pulled a property deed from her bag, holding it up to the camera. Her name was clearly printed on the document.
The livestream exploded with comments as viewers reacted in awe and disbelief.
“I take it back. I’ve never seen such a powerful person in my life.”
“An entire theme park as a gift? That’s next-level pampering! It’s on par with Mr. Sterling and his undying love for Mrs. Sterling!”
“They say a man’s love is measured by his wealth. Why can’t I meet a perfect man like this?”
“That’s because there are only two perfect men in the world: Mr. Sterling, and this mysterious boyfriend of Evelyn’s. So, who do you think loves their partner more? Sterling’s devotion to Mrs. Sterling or Evelyn’s boyfriend’s love for her? Press 1 for Mr. Sterling, 2 for Evelyn’s boyfriend!”
The comments flooded in, mostly filled with “1”s. After all, Jack’s love for Freya was legendary—he didn’t just spend money, he had nearly given his life for her.

Just then, a new account named “LovesEvelyn” appeared, sending 10,000 luxury virtual gifts to her livestream. The screen lit up with vibrant animations, leaving viewers astonished.
With the flood of gifts, the number of viewers in Evelyn’s livestream skyrocketed from hundreds of thousands to over ten million.
Then, a bold message flashed across the screen: “Of course, I love Evelyn more.”
The livestream erupted in chaos.
