Chapter 86
Ethan sized Stephen up.
Stephen? A genius? Well, he certainly did not see it. If Stephen were truly a genius, North Hill City would not be in its current state.
Honestly speaking, Ethan could not even think of a way to save it.
Ethan mused, “Your family background is impressive. Perhaps you are indeed a genius in the eyes of ordinary people, but you still need to learn to see things from their perspective.”
Ethan was probing Stephen with his words. The deeper meaning was clear–Stephen had spent too long on his pedestal, and it was about time he learned how ordinary people lived and thought.
Stephen scoffed, “Learn the foolish thinking of the commoners?”
Ethan shook his head.
Stephen had completely missed the point. It seemed he was not a genius after all. He was merely an ordinary person born into the right family.
At that point, Ethan had only one thing to say.
“No,” Ethan said as he slowly stood up. “It’s about learning to see me from their perspective.”
A breeze swept by, and Stephen froze in place. As he watched Ethan stand up, he could not help but feel that Ethan’s presence was suddenly towering over him imposingly.
By learning to see Ethan from a commoner’s perspective, did Ethan mean that, in his eyes, Stephen was no different from those ordinary people? How could that be?
“Actually, I was giving you a pretty generous compliment,” Ethan said as he walked past Stephen toward the house. “At least I said your family background is impressive.”
Stephen was utterly dumbfounded.
Praising his family background? What did that have to do with him personally? He was not the one who built up the Quinns!
“Ha.” Howard chuckled beside him. “Actually, Mr. Rivers wasn’t complimenting you at all. He was just saying that you’re nothing without the Quinns backing you up.”
Stephen clenched his fists. He wanted to say something, but when he looked up, Ethan had walked into the villa.
Stephen’s blood was boiling, his frustration bubbling up, but there was nothing he could
- do.

He could only snarl at Howard, “We’re returning now!”
Seeing Stephen like that made Howard chuckle even more, further.
which only infuriated Stephen
Stephen could not understand it. He had brought Howard here specifically to upset Ethan. Yet somehow, he was the one who ended up humiliated. Worse still, he had let Howard witness his embarrassment too. It was utterly humiliating.
He hurriedly left the mountain and dropped Howard back at the prison before rushing home.
When he got home and saw Rachel, his mood improved a little. Even if he could not outwit Ethan in conversation, he had still won. After all, Rachel, the woman Ethan loved most, was with him now!
“What good is his silver tongue? Anyone who sticks by him is doomed,” Stephen thought. Just look at Howard!”
Pulling out his phone, Stephen quickly dialed Simon’s number, to report the news to him. “Howard has been arrested. He has confessed to all his crimes and has been sentenced to life in prison.”
Simon nodded with satisfaction. “You’ve done well. Now that Howard has chosen prison, we can move on to the next step.”
Simon had hinted at that before. With Howard in prison, they could make a big deal out of it, accusing Ethan of colluding with criminals, supporting criminals, and even nurturing criminals…
There was plenty of evidence that Howard had been one of Ethan’s subordinates. The proof was ironclad. Even if Ethan tried to talk his way out of it, there was no way he could. No amount of smooth–talking could erase the evidence.
Once that got out, Ethan’s heroic image would be stripped away, and he would once again become a public enemy.
Simon continued, “Now, get the video of Howard’s confession and send me any evidence of his interactions with Ethan.”
“I’ll call a meeting here to convict Ethan.”
“Got it!” Stephen immediately set to work.
