Liam sat in a room by himself, staring blankly at the sky outside the window.
Liam’s preferential treatment of Ethan sparked a formal complaint, prompting an investigation. Hence, he was suspended from all duties, the outcome pending.
Still, Liam did not think he had done anything wrong.
“Click.”
The door to the room opened.
Liam kept his head down, knowing the grilling had begun. Ethan was now public enemy number one, and his support of Ethan would only mark him the target of public outrage. He was done for.
“I’m sorry, Liam.” A voice boomed.
Dumbstruck, Liam thought his ears were deceiving him. He turned to the door and saw a group with their heads hung down, puzzled as to what was going on.
“You were right to defend Ethan.”
“We were wrong about everything.”
Their apologies took Liam off guard, but he quickly caught on. He was saved–saved by
Ethan.
Liam was quickly removed from confinement, and his job was reinstated. On the way back to the precinct, he scrolled on his phone and cried tears of joy as the public apologized to Ethan for accusing him wrongly.
Liam knew Ethan would never do the public any harm. Out of everyone, Ethan was the least likely to put North Hill City in harm’s way.
In fact, Ethan would be devastated to see the state North Hill City was in. He had worked hard, building the economy up over the last three years, and it took Stephen three weeks to undo all the good, with the perpetrators still at large.
Following Liam’s return to the precinct, many police officers sobbed and rushed to apologize to him.
Liam shook his head and said, “The person you have failed is Mr. Rivers. What I went through is nothing.
“He’s the one you’ve hurt the most!”
The officers went quiet. The mention of Ethan was a painful reminder of their inexcusable behavior.

They arrived outside Ethan’s holding cell and apologized to him genuinely. The individual who called Liam out for favoritism, in particular, dropped to his knees and wailed.
The reporters who interviewed Ethan, Shawn, Eric, and Brandon were also dismissed. They were sacked and would struggle to find work in journalism again, their careers in the industry in jeopardy.
Hugging their knees on the sidewalk, those former reporters kicked themselves. Especially the interviewer who interviewed Ethan, the public could not wait to jump on him when he was given the pink slip.
What would his wife think of him when he got home? He could not face his son either as he was responsible for painting Ethan into a villain.
As fate would have it, his phone rang. Seeing that the call was from his wife, the interviewer took the call.
“I have nothing to say to you. I’m filing for divorce.”
The interviewer froze on the streets.
His life was over. Just like what he had told Ethan, he was facing the consequences of his own actions.
Before the day was over, the public apologized to Ethan.
Outside the borders, Shawn, Eric, and Brandon watched with glee as the drama played out. They were pleased with the city’s chaos.
Brandon even gave Stephen a call, and the call quickly connected.
“What does it feel now, Mr. Quinn?”
Stephen blew up at the sound of Brandon’s voice. He would recognize that voice anywhere.
“Brandon!” he shouted angrily.
“That’s right.” Brandon joked around.
“Where are you? Get your ass back here right now!” Stephen wished he could bring Brandon to justice right there and then.
