Chapter 52
Inside a grand mansion, Eric and Brandon walked into the living room and saw Shawn on the couch.
They curiously asked, “What’s the matter? You sounded urgent.”
“Good news!” Shawn could not even hold back his smirk. “We’re going to be rich this time!”
While Eric looked confused, Brandon sat opposite Shawn and asked, “What is it?”
“The federal government just had a meeting, and they’ve praised us for what we’ve done here in North Hill. Reporters will be interviewing us in the next two days. Until then, we’ll be famous across the country.”
Brandon’instantly understood. “With a better reputation, it’s easier for us to make more money!”
Although Eric could not quite follow the details, he perked up and grinned when he heard he was about to make more money.
“But that’s not all. Stephen Quinn wants to sell you a piece of land at a lower–than–market price to develop. It’s that land that you’ve always wanted!”
Brandon bolted up from his seat, momentarily doubting his ears, but he was finally getting the land he dreamt of!
Three years ago, he tried to purchase the land for development, but Ethan stopped him. That land was the home to endangered wildlife and underneath was a river stream, vital to the city’s infrastructure. Once developed, the wildlife would lose their home, and the environment of the city would be damaged.
Just as Brandon wanted to give up on the thought, Stephen surprised him with the biggest gift.
“This is great!” he said, laughing hysterically.
If he could get the land and develop it, he could make a hundred times more money. As for the consequences, he did not care. He already had a way to get out safely.
Once everything was drained and squeezed out, he would leave the country. No matter how angry Stephen would be, there was nothing the man could do about it.
The next day, reporters arrived at the Lowes‘ mansion to interview Stephen.
Stephen wore a formal suit with a beautiful tie, looking handsome and charming. His look alone could capture the hearts of many.
“Mr. Quinn, good morning.”

The reporters spoke to him with utmost respect as he was the vital person who saved North Hill City.
“We have heard a lot about you, and now it’s clear the rumors are true.”
Stephen smiled, looking extremely confident.
“Did you foresee the chaos in North Hill City? Was that why you made Eric Morningstar the commander and Shawn Hill the mayor? To stop this from getting worse?”
He nodded. “Yes, that’s right. I knew how despicable Ethan Rivers could be, so I took precautions and made sure we had measures in place before he could make a move. But…”
He sighed, looking directly into the camera.
“I somehow underestimated just how vile he could be, and it hurt the city a little. That was my fault. I owe the people of North Hill City my sincerest apology.”
He bowed his head in front of everyone and the camera.
“I’m truly sorry for letting you all down.”
Seeing Stephen’s sincere reaction, George, Rachel, and the others applauded him for his humility. Even the reporters nodded in admiration.
With a man like him leading Riveria, they had nothing to worry about.
“You’re not at fault, sir. Ethan Rivers is.”
“Yeah. You’ve done what you can.”
Stephen sat down. However, he was not truly apologetic. It was an act in front of the
camerą.
He wanted to win impressions and earn sympathy from the people, thus making them hate Ethan even more. Then, as the number of his supporters grew, the number of Ethan’s haters would also grow.
