Chapter 464
“Lord Rivers, please save Stephen,” Nolan pleaded urgently.
“Why?” Ethan asked. “What benefit would I get from saving him?”
Nolan fell silent.
For Ethan, there really was no benefit in saving Stephen. Moreover, Stephen was Ethan’s enemy, the one who had confined him here.
If Stephen died, Ethan might regain his freedom and reclaim control of Riveria. Far from being harmful, Stephen’s death would only benefit Ethan.
After hesitating, Nolan said, “I–I don’t think… he should die yet.”
Ethan smiled faintly. “You mean he shouldn’t die because he’s useful to you. If he had evidence that could destroy the Spencers, you’d be finding ways to kill him yourself.”
“But no such evidence exists,” Nolan retorted.
He silently breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that Stephen had destroyed the evidence Jeremy had worked so hard to obtain.
Now, seeing the South Regent there, Nolan realized that Jeremy’s plan might have been Ethan’s doing. Ethan’s strategy of infiltration and mutual destruction was ruthless but effective.
It had scared Nolan so badly that his legs went weak at the time. He had even considered running for his life. Thankfully, Stephen had come to his rescue, and this time, he won.
The thought filled Nolan with a sense of pride. He had beaten Ethan once, the same Ethan who had once driven the Spencers to the brink of ruin. Winning this time meant that Ethan was not invincible. His plans had flaws, and once the Spencers grew stronger, they could crush Ethan under their feet.
Nolan took a deep breath, feeling bolder. “Yes, keeping Stephen alive works in our favor, but we could arrange some benefits for you too. Perhaps Stephen could reduce your sentence, considering the help you provided?”
The South Regent slammed his hands on the table. “What nonsense is this? If Lord Rivers wanted to leave, who here could stop him? And now you want to plead for mercy on his behalf? Ridiculous. Lord Rivers doesn’t need your help!”

Nolan narrowed his eyes. “Doesn’t he? If he could leave, why is he still confined here?”
He turned his gaze back to Ethan. “Lord Rivers, as they say, the wise adapt to circumstances. Surely you understand this principle.”
Ethan nodded and smiled faintly. “I understand everything you’re saying. Unfortunately, you’re wrong about many things.
“First of all, you think I’m confined here, but I’m here by choice. If all of you could make it up here so easily, don’t you think I could leave just as easily?
“Secondly, whether Stephen lives or dies makes no difference to me. If I wanted, I could have Andy replace him.”
Nolan’s brief moment of relief vanished instantly as the weight of Ethan’s words sank in
Gathering his courage, he stuttered, take over Riveria?”
“Y–You may say that, but would Andy want to
“Have you just met me?” Ethan replied. “I don’t need his consent. If there was a chance to control Riveria, do you think the Whites would pass it up? f controlling Riveria could promote peace beyond the borders…” Ethan looked at Andy. “would you refuse?”
Andy trembled and lowered his head, his body tense. “No.”
Nolan was too caught off guard to speak.
“And lastly.” Ethan smirked slightly as he said, “Confidence is good, but arrogance isn’t.
“I know where your courage comes from. You figured out Jeremy’s plan was my doing, and when Stephen destroyed the evidence, you thought you’d bested me for once. But there’s only one thing I need to say to you.” Ethan spoke slowly, enunciating each word clearly, “I have the evidence.”
The moment those words left his mouth, Nolan’s eyes widened in shock.
The South Regent whipped his head around, staring at Ethan with a mix of disbelief and awe. Andy and Marcus felt their hearts also skip a beat.
Those words were a bombshell.
