Chapter 463
His cry brought many people running, and Stephen was quickly rushed to the hospital.
After examination, the doctors concluded that Stephen was suffering from mental exhaustion and would recover with proper rest.
Nolan was not convinced. Having been through similar experiences, he knew Stephen must have gone through something devastating. If Stephen was not mentally strong enough, they might find Stephen’s body cold and lifeless tomorrow.
Nolan, though, did not want Stephen to die. He had never met someone so incompetent, and if Stephen died, whoever replaced him might be sharper, which would spell trouble for Nolan. However, beyond all that, what scared him the most was Ethan. If Stephen died and Ethan returned, they would be finished!
Nolan quickly made a video call to Simon with Stephen’s phone, showing him his son’s condition.
Simon was shocked to see Stephen’s state. “What happened? I’ll be right there!”
He also immediately called Rachel, urging her to head to Hill City to take care of Stephen.
“I don’t know what’s going on,” Nolan said. “But I’ve got a bad feeling. If he doesn’t pull through this, things could get dangerous.”
He suspected Stephen must have met Ethan because only Ethan could break a man like that.
“I think there’s someone who might be able to help,” Nolan continued. “I’m going to look for him now.”
He returned the phone to Stephen, letting him talk with Simon while he booked a flight to Metropolis to meet Ethan at Drakthorn Ridge.
By evening, Nolan had arrived at Drakthorn Ridge.
Though several guards tried to stop him, Nolan showed his credentials and Stephen’s condition, saying, “If you stop me and something happens to your superior, do you think you can handle the consequences?”
No one dared stop him after that, and Nolan made his way up the mountain.
He soon arrived at the mansion. As he stared at the building, his legs began to shake.

However, Stephen could not die yet, so he mustered every bit of his courage and entered the mansion.
When he entered, the sight before him made him freeze. Ethan was not alone. Besides himself, the South Regent was there, along with two unfamiliar faces- Andy and his military expert mentor, Marcus.
Seeing Nolan’s arrival, Ethan said, “Why does everyone keep coming here? This supposed to be my prison.”
Everyone stared at Ethan in disbelief. Anyone else might believe him, but they all knew better.
The South Regent turned to Nolan. “Stephen’s in bad shape, all the evidence to clear your name is gone, and instead of causing trouble in Hill City, you’re here. Why?”
“To save Stephen,” Nolan replied. “He’s taken a hard blow. I’m afraid he won’t make it through tonight.”
Andy and Marcus were stunned when they heard Stephen would not make it through the night.
Despite everything that had happened, Andy still cared about Stephen, considering their past. However, thinking about all the mess Stephen had caused, he could only sigh helplessly.
He had heard about how Stephen had caused yet another death and was disappointed with Stephen’s incompetence, causing nothing but trouble.
The South Regent laughed. “If he’s on his way out, go find a doctor. What’s Lord Rivers got to do with it? Stop wasting our time; we’re about to have dinner.”
He and the Spencers had always been at odds, especially recently when the Spencers had taken over his company in Hill City. He wanted nothing more than to storm their house with guns blazing.
Nolan was annoyed at the South Regent’s retort. “I’m not here for you, so don’t speak. I’m here to see Lord Rivers.”
The South Regent narrowed his eyes.
Just then, Ethan spoke calmly, “If you want to argue, do it outside.”
Hearing that, both men looked away and forced a smile. Neither dared to say another word, afraid that if Ethan were to speak again, his words might make them want to crawl into a hole.
