know?”
“Three years ago, did the Spencers try to control Breeze City and even conspire with foreign forces?”
At that question, cold sweat trickled down Nolan’s forehead. Could Stephen have found out about what the Spencers did three years ago?
‘No!‘ Nolan’s mind raced. ‘He doesn’t know the full story yet. He’s unsure, so he’s asking Ethan.‘
He looked at Ethan nervously. Now, the Spencers future was in Ethan’s hands again!
Ethan glanced at them, his expression calm. “I don’t know.‘
Stephen gritted his teeth. He could tell from Ethan’s reaction that the man definitely knew something.
“You know!”
Ethan smiled. “Well, I’m not going to say.”
Stephen could barely suppress the urge to hit Ethan, but he restrained himself. “Ethan, you’re aiding and abetting a criminal if you withhold information. But if you speak up, you might gain merit for it.”
Ethan looked down at him. “I’m already here. Does it really matter if I add to my crimes?”
For a moment, Stephen did not know how to answer. Ethan had been locked away there for life, so whether he made things worse or not would not change his fate.
Nolan, standing nearby, looked utterly dumbfounded. He thought Ethan would expose the truth, but instead, Ethan said nothing. It meant that Ethan did not care what they were up to anymore!
Nolan could not hide his excitement. After three years of being suppressed, they were finally free to act!
Stephen pressed again, “What will it take for you to talk?”
Ethan looked at Stephen like he was looking at an idiot. “A Spencer is right beside you. Why are you asking me instead of him? If you’ve already taken so many hits and still can’t even figure out something so simple, maybe you should just climb to the top of a mountain and jump off.”
He meant it.
Until now, Nolan had not said a word in Stephen’s defense. Was that not enough proof that

something was going on with the Spencers?
Nolan did not dare to speak because he feared that Stephen’s question on whether the Spencers were problematic would prompt Ethan to speak the truth. Hence, he could only play deaf and dumb.
Ethan had even hinted that Nolan was right beside him.
“You’re too much!” Stephen could not hold back his anger.
Ethan chuckled. “I think the best way to improve your speaking skills is to make yourself mute. The quickest way to achieve success is to die.”
Nolan almost burst into laughter.
In the past, they were at the receiving end for such sarcastic remarks from Ethan, and watching someone else go through it now was amusing. It was as if he had graduated from a strict teacher and was now standing by, laughing as the teacher disciplined the new student.
“You!” Stephen shook with rage. “I came here to give you a chance to redeem yourself, and instead of accepting it, you throw insults at me?
“Redeem myself, huh?” Ethan replied, “Have you lied so much that you’ve fooled yourself too? Or should I take the blame for bringing peace to Riveria? Or maybe it’s my fault for doing too good of a job or not offering it up on a silver platter?”
Ethan’s words felt like a slap to Stephen’s face, which burned with shame.
He remembered now. Ethan had done nothing wrong. It was the Quinns who conspired with the Lowes to frame Ethan, robbing Ethan of his achievements so they could take credit for his achievements and fast–track his political career.
The person in the wrong had always been him!
Stephen lowered his head, the anger in him dissipating at once.

“This is important to me, Hill City, and everyone in Riveria.” Stephen’s head hung low. “I hope you can look past the past and tell us the truth.”
Ethan asked, “What does any of this have to do with me? If there’s nothing else, you can leave.”
