Evidence? The hitman truly had none now. Everyone involved was clean and efficient in their moves, leaving no traces behind.
“But me being here can be considered evidence,” The hitman said, “This time, I’m turning myself in.”
Stephen was taken aback. The hitman, who had fooled him several times, was turning himself in now to expose the Spencers? Could everything he said be true?
Stephen then took out his phone and dialed the police to arrest the hitman. However, the hitman had no plans to escape. His last order was to surrender and take the Spencers down with him.
He remained seated on the couch. “Mr. Quinn, don’t be fooled again.”
His words made Stephen pause. For a split second, Julius‘ face flashed across his mind.
“Actually, I do sympathize and pity you.” The hitman said, “I’ve had many chances to kill you, but we never did. You should know we’re not your true enemy.”
“Nonsense!” Stephen snapped, not believing a word. “We’re enemies by circumstance, nothing more!”
“It’s up to you to believe me or not. We have a common enemy now.”
Stephen fell silent. Did the common enemy refer to the Spencers?
Suddenly, the sound of police sirens blared, and the hitman sighed. “I’ve told you everything needed to say. The rest is up to you. Don’t let everyone down again.”
Then, the hitman stood up.
With a click, the door was forced open, and many fully armed police swarmed in, surrounding the hitman.
Stephen watched as the hitman was taken away. He followed them to the station to make a report and returned home soon. The house felt eerily quiet as he lay on his bed, finding it difficult to fall asleep.
As soon as he closed his eyes, the hitman’s words replayed in his mind. Were the Spencers really problematic? Had he been tricked again?
Was the Spencers, the South Regent, or both of them lying to him?
Stephen could not tell. He thought about it until dawn but could not find the answers. The only person he could think of was Ethan.
“It’s time to see him.” Stephen got out of bed and called Nolan.
Together, they took a flight back to the capital.

Chapter 428
Nolan was still a little confused after boarding the plane. “Stephen, where are we going?”
“You’ll know when we get there.”
Nolan sensed something was wrong. After the plane landed, Stephen dragged Nolan into a car and went straight to Drakthorn Ridge.
Seeing the car drive toward Drakthorn Ridge, Nolan’s expression turned tense. Was Stephen taking him to Ethan?
Just the thought of Ethan made Nolan’s legs shake. Ethan was the man who had driven his brother to suicide, and even his father did not dare to seek revenge against him. A while ago, Tyler even warned him not to seek out Ethan.
Just as Nolan pondered what to do, a mansion appeared before them.
“We’ve arrived. Get out.” Stephen was the first to step out of the car.
“Ethan lives here?” Nolan was stunned.
He knew Ethan was imprisoned, but the mansion looked nothing like a prison.
When Stephen noticed the front gate of the mansion was shut, he frowned. Was Ethan not home?
He walked up and rang the doorbell. A minute later, the glass window on the second–floor balcony opened, and Ethan slowly stepped out onto the balcony.
Nolan looked up at Ethan, and when their eyes met, the traumas of the past rushed back into his mind. His face paled, and his legs started to buckle. However, Ethan simply glanced at him indifferently before shifting his gaze to Stephen
“Do you have nothing better to do?”
Those simple words made Stephen’s face darken.
“I need to talk to you. Let me in,” Stephen said, his tone calmer now, as he was hoping for Ethan’s help.
Ethan dismissed him. “I don’t know. Go back.”
