Chapter 424
In the end, Stephen had no choice but to hand all 70 million in donations to Nolan, trusting him to fix the places affected by the forest fire.
Nolan smiled. “Don’t worry. I will do my best.”
Now, he received a total of 120 million from Stephen through multiple parties. The Spencers were in desperate need of money, so there was no way he would spend all the money on helping people.
He distributed 50 million worth of compensation and let his men pocket 20 million from it. Then, he took 70 million to help the places affected by the forest–fire and skimmed another 30 million for his people.
He then sent his men overseas to launder the money through the Spencers‘ shady network, successfully transferring all the money to the family. After the transaction was complete, the men were taken out by the Spencers to ensure that they would never be seen again.
With that, Nolan distanced himself completely from whatever shady transactions that happened. Even if something went wrong, no one would ever be able to trace anything back to him.
Now, only 70 million dollars of Stephen’s money remained, and 30 million of that was supposed to be for relief. For the local villagers and businesses that had lost so much in the disaster, that amount was not enough to compensate for their losses.
On top of that, the compensation money would certainly be filtered through the ranks, so when the people received the money once more, they felt like fools.
Everyone felt like they had been played.
“Stephen Quinn is a jinx! Wherever he goes, the place is tainted with bad luck. He got us into this mess, and this is how much he’s compensating us?”
“I can’t take this anymore. He doesn’t even see us as people anymore!”
Riveria had only seen peace for three years. Before that, it had been chaos, and the people did not want that kind of life.
Meanwhile, the Spencers successfully pocketed 50 million and immediately used it to start a new company in Hill City.
Stephen was happy to learn that a new company was established in the city. He thought the establishment of a company in Hill City signaled a positive shift in the city’s economy, but little did he know that the money the company used to set up was all the funds from his fundraiser.
The established company mainly specialized in paper manufacturing and lumber processing. As soon as they set up shop, they found themselves in direct competition with the South

Regent’s company, which had long dominated the region’s mining, lumber, and herbal markets.
With people growing frustrated with Stephen, unrest began to brew beneath the surface. However, Stephen remained oblivious, smiling, and unaware of the growing danger.
Then, another incident happened at the quarry again. This time was a cave–in incident, and miners were trapped once again. After taking experience from the first incident, Stephen realized the incidents at the quarry had little to do with himself, so he did not pay much attention to it.
Nolan went to Stephen, saying, “This is the second incident after they took over the quarry. I think the company isn’t qualified to manage it. Should we take back the mining rights?”
Stephen thought it over for a moment. Nolan had a point, but Stephen was not ready to make such a drastic move. Hence, he sent a warning to the quarry’s management, informing them that if they could not ensure a safety operation and another incident happened, the mining rights would be taken back.
The manager quickly replied, “We will ensure everything is safe!”
He already had a hunch that someone was targeting the quarry. He was almost certain it was the Spencers who wanted them to lose the mining rights to the quarry.
The manager made a call to the South Regent, reporting the news.
When the South Regent found out about the Spencers, he frowned.
“Who would have thought the Spencers would stoop so low, but we’re no weaklings either. If they want to sabotage our business, don’t blame me for what’s about to happen next.”
He called in hitmen, instructing them to cross the border and take out the CEO of the Spencers
company, along with Nolan himself.
That night, Stephen invited Nolan out for dinner again. Hill City was in dire need of funds, so he was planning to ask Nolan for more suggestions.
The two of them met up in a private room of a restaurant. However, before the food was served, the door burst open with a loud crash, and several masked men swarmed in.

Stephen wanted to question them, but then he saw the guns in their hands.
Nolan shouted, “Watch out!”
