Stephen started clapping.
That was an idea that he had never thought of. Although his negligence caused the wildfire, having everyone cover for him to solve the problem was perfect. If he could just do it better, he could even save his own image,
“Good idea!”
The others got up and applauded the idea as well
“Mayor Nolan is indeed a wise person! He has a lot of good ideas in his pockets!”
“We still have so much to learn from him!”
“When head home later, I’ll study his suggested ideas! It’s great!”
They flattered Nolan ceaselessly.
“Hmph!” Stephen scoffed. “I wanted you guys to think of a solution, but none of you could come up with anything. Now, we have to rely on Nolan.”
Nolan smiled. “You’re giving me too much credit. It’s my job, really. I’m just glad I could help. It’s not as amazing as you’re making it sound.”
“Alright, we’ll go with these plans for now. Meeting adjourned,” Stephen replied.
He strongly believed Nolan’s idea had helped him solve his most urgent problems, especially the idea of using Julius‘ name to start a fund–raising campaign. It could ease his guilt toward Julius while ensuring the matter was handled properly. On top of that, he could also save his image and reputation.
“If there’s extra money left over, we can use them to start a fund. If Ethan could do it, so can I, and I will do it better than him!”
Stephen’s gaze was fierce.
When Julius died and George was imprisoned, he felt helpless and suffocated, as if he had to take on the world by himself. However, now that Nolan was on his team, he was relieved of the
pressure.
He believed with Nolan’s help, he was confident things would be much easier from here on out. It would also be a matter of time before he surpassed Ethan!
When Stephen got back, he gave Simon a call and informed him of Nolan’s idea.
“That’s a good idea.”
Simon praised Nolan’s idea, but there was still one concerning issue.
“Are you sure this Nolan Spencer is reliable?”

Stephen said, “I’ve been to his house before and met his family, neighbors, superiors, colleagues, and even subordinates. I’ve even asked random people on the street about him too.
“I made sure he was clean before bringing him on board. And he mentioned that he used to get a lot of help from Ethan, so if Ethan trusted him, I think we’re in good hands.”
Simon laughed heartily. “That’s great! You did well this time!”
Stephen could finally smile.
Meanwhile, Nolan was making a phone call of his own to his father to inform him about Ethan’s life imprisonment.
“Are you sure about that?” Edward said, his tone skeptical.
Nolan explained, “I’m not entirely sure, but it’s highly likely.”
“Before you get absolute confirmation, all things are just talks. I want to see Ethan Rivers behind bars with my own eyes,” Edward said seriously.
Nolan lowered his head, “I’ll try to meet him in person.”
On the second day, Stephen went with Nolan’s idea and started to tackle the first few problems of Hill City.
He issued a fifty percent compensation based on the calculated losses. The funds were distributed through multiple levels of administration, eventually reaching the hands of the town mayors and village chiefs.
By the time the money reached them, it was not much. However, Stephen had given his orders, and they had no choice but to follow through. In the end, the compensation the villagers received was pitifully small.
Some of them had planted entire hillsides with crops or trees, only to lose everything, and when the compensation finally came, it amounted to just a few thousand dollars! It was not even enough for them to buy new seeds or saplings.
Unhappy with the amount, the villagers flooded the village chiefs and town mayors with their complaints. As there was nothing the village chiefs and town mayors could do, they reported the issues to the higher–ups. However, those concerns either took a long time to reach Stephen, or they did not make it to him at all.
