Chapter 413
Using the photos provided, the South Regent searched among the people they had rescued and found the two bodies among the pile of corpses.
Seeing as they’re only corpses, I’ll give you a fifty percent discount 50,000 dollars each.”
Edward and Tyler stared at the bodies, thunderstruck
“You killed them!”
“I don’t even know you people. Why would I kill them?” the South Regent said. “But I can find out how they died.”
With that, he started a video call to ask his men about how Max’s wife and son had died.
“When we found the woman and child, they were already dead. A man was kneeling beside them with a gun, acting deranged. He kept trying to shoot himself, but the gun was empty.
The South Regent showed Max’s photo to his subordinate. “Was this the man?”
“Yes, that’s him.”
After having the gun and bullets examined, it was confirmed that Max had killed his wife and son himself.
“That’s impossible!” Edward and Tyler could hardly believe it.
“You think I’m lying?” the South Regent scoffed. “Do you know who I am? If I killed someone here, why would I need to be secretive about it? Pay me more, and I’ll get you the full story.
They fell silent. The South Regent was one of the kings beyond the border. If he killed someone there, why would he hide it when he could freely admit it?
They had no choice but to pay more for a thorough investigation.
The South Regent questioned other survivors.
“We saw that family. We were all held captive by those maniacs who could’ve killed us at any moment. That man tried to escape with his wife and son, but when we were rescued, we saw him kneeling by a car, screaming in despair.”
The truth was clear by that point.
“Max Spencer killed his wife and son himself,” the South Regent explained. “They were surrounded, so they tried to escape rather than die. However, their car broke down not far away. When he saw the enemy catching up, he apparently decided on murder–suicide.
“After killing his wife and son, he ran out of bullets. That was when we arrived and eliminated the organization.”
Edward and Tyler turned pale. They did not want to accept it, but all evidence pointed to that

truth.
“How did this happen? With Max’s status and wealth, how dare that organization touch him?”
“The organization was just a bunch of thugs with blood on their hands and no conscience,” the South Regent answered. “And this time, they seemed to be targeting someone specific.”
That made Edward think of one person: Ethan Rivers!
Before leaving, Ethan had said something that made no sense. “I’ve deliberately stalled you for quite a while. I hope you can still make it in time.”
Now, connecting the organization, the South Regent’s rescue, and Max killing his family, a frightening thought occurred to Edward.
“Do you know Ethan Rivers?”
The South Regent’s expression changed instantly. “Of course. He’s the Grand Marshal’s only student, Ethan Rivers!”
“What?”
Edward and Tyler were shocked to learn that Ethan was the Grand Marshal’s student! They thought he was just another run–of–the–mill official, but his background was extraordinary! “Ethan was the one who tipped me off about these thugs‘ location, allowing us to eliminate them in time.”
Edward nearly fainted from the shock. Thankfully, Tyler caught him.
“I understand now.”
His suspicion was correct!
“What have you understood, old man?” the South Regent asked.
“All of this… was Ethan’s plan.”
