Chapter 411
When Nolan learned he was being transferred to another city, his first thought was that it must be Ethan’s plan. After all, Ethan had left quite a psychological impact on him.
“That can’t be right?” Nolan’s brother, Tyler, frowned and said, “Ethan’s been in prison without any news for a while now. Besides, Stephen Quinn is running Riveria now, not Ethan.”
Their father, Edward, furrowed his brow too. Though advanced in age, his mind was still sharp. Nolan had been deputy mayor for twenty years, but Edward had always been the strategist when problems arose.
“You don’t understand,” Edward said. “Just because he’s disappeared doesn’t mean he’s dead. Perhaps Stephen Quinn’s vulnerabilities and what happened in those other cities were all part of Ethan’s plans.”
He knew about Ethan’s arrest but could not tell if that was part of Ethan’s plan or if the man had truly been captured.
Edward’s voice grew stern. “Don’t forget what happened to your brother and his family.”
Tyler fell silent. Even after three years, his brother’s death was still fresh in his mind.
Back then, the Spencers were a prominent family in Breeze City. With Nolan as deputy mayor, their brother had wanted to push further–not only securing the mayor’s position for Nolan but also gaining complete control of Breeze City to facilitate illegal trade across the border. When the Grand Marshal passed away, their brother thought no one in Riveria could stop him anymore. Hence, he invested hundreds of millions to build influence beyond the border and opened channels for contraband to flow into Breeze City.
Edward, Tyler, and Nolan were all excited about that. Breeze City was almost fully in their grasp. Then, one day, Ethan came.
Ethan arrived at the Spencer mansion alone.
“Who are you? Do you have an appointment?” The butler stopped Ethan at the door.

Ethan silently showed his credentials. The butler’s face turned pale, and he scrambled to find Tyler.
When Tyler came out, Ethan was already seated in the living room.
“I apologize for not welcoming you properly, sir. I had no idea you were coming,” Tyler said with a slight smile.
Let’s skip the pleasantries,” Ethan replied calmly. “You don’t have much time, and I didn’t come here to listen to your flattery.”

Tyler’s smile gradually faded. Although he knew than was a high–ranking official, it was his first time meeting the man.
“What do you mean by that?”
“You’ve overstepped,” Ethan answered.
Tyler understood that Ethan might know about the Spencers‘ activities. However, he was not sure exactly what Ethan knew. Was it about Nolan’s mayoral ambitions or their operations beyond the border?
“I don’t understand what you mean,” Tyler said. ‘We’re law–abiding citizens.”
Ethan casually tossed some photos onto the table, and Tyler’s expression darkened as soon as he picked them up. The photos showed his brother dining with Breeze City’s mayor and him shaking hands with various criminal leaders beyond the border.
Tyler instantly realized that the jig was up!
“You people have ambition and vision, I give you that. But unfortunately, you’ve directed them toward the wrong pursuits,” Ethan said.
Tyler’s face sank. Ethan knew too much.
“Knowing too much isn’t good for you, and you came here alone today. Aren’t you afraid you won’t make it out alive?”
Tyler had decided to deal with Ethan right there and then.
“This isn’t about fear,” Ethan said slowly, drawing a gun. “It’s a matter of whether you can stop me.”
Tyler’s eyes widened at the sight of a gun!
