The body was soon brought back.
Stephen and his classmates could only watch as Penny collapsed over the body, crying uncontrollably.
Several classmates wiped their tears, and Stephen’s eyes turned red as well.
Not long before this, he was still thinking about how he could start to make amends and make Penny’s life a little better. However, the child was dead. There was nothing he could do now.
Penny was devastated and cried until she passed out.
Stephen instructed people to handle Penny’s affairs, then said goodbye to his classmates and returned to the Quinns‘ estate.
When he got home, the butler was still awake, seemingly waiting for him. “You’re back. Do you want to rest now, or would you like to have supper?”
Stephen was not in the mood and said, “I’m going to sleep. You should rest early too.”
Back in his room, Stephen lay on his bed but could not sleep at all.
A lot had happened today. He thought that he had been having some trouble recently, but everyone else was also struggling. A life had even been lost.
‘I can’t even provide a peaceful life for the people around me. How did Ethan manage to bring peace to the whole of Riveria?‘
Ethan did not understand. They were clearly around the same age, so why was Ethan always ahead of him? His identity, status, and family background should have put him far ahead of Ethan! Why could he not compare to Ethan?
He wanted to call Ethan, but when he picked up his phone, he realized that it was already 4 a.m. Stephen sighed and ultimately did not make the call.
The next day, he woke up at noon and still felt a bit dazed. Everything that happened yesterday felt like a dream.
When he picked up his phone and saw that Blake had called him several times, he realized that what happened yesterday was real.
Stephen called back. “How’s Penny doing?”
“Well, she’s still emotionally unstable. Her family doesn’t have much money, so they can’t even afford a funeral.”
Stephen said, “I’ll cover the funeral expenses.”
After a pause, he asked, “How did the child fall into the river?”

Blake said, “According to speculation, he probably wanted to catch some fish. Penny has to support both her and her late husband’s parents, a child with
ognitive issues, as well as pay
off the medical debts incurred during her husband and son’s treatments. Her family doesn’t have much money and has barely enough to eat. Yesterday, the boy saw someone eating fish, so he wanted to catch one by himself.”
Stephen was shocked.
If he had not arrested Ethan and caused the welfare agency to close down, Penny’s family would have been able to afford food. If they could afford to eat, the child would not have drowned in the river.
This tragedy was ultimately his fault! He had taken a life again!
Stephen instantly paled. His legs went weak, and he slumped down on the bed.
“How could that be?” He only wanted to control Ethan. He never thought such a thing would happen. How could he face Penny now?
“Stephen, what’s wrong?” Blake asked.
Stephen slowly returned to his senses and remembered that he was still on the phone with Blake. He quickly said, “Nothing. I still have work to do, so I’ll hang up first.”
He quickly ended the call.
Stephen did not dare to see Penny now. He could only instruct others to take care of her, help her handle the child’s funeral, and give her some money to improve her life.
After doing all that, Stephen felt a little more at ease.
Then, he said goodbye to a few classmates over the phone and took a flight back to Riveria.
George was about to go to prison, so he could not leave Riveria for long. He hurried back to Riveria overnight and was just about to fall asleep on the plane.
Suddenly, the plane shook violently.
