Chapter 39
Chapter 39
Eric was at a loss for words. The situation was completely different from what he had imagined.
With a parched mouth, he watched the passing residents and said to one of his officers, Quick, go ask if they have any more ice pops.”
The officer, nearly fainting, replied, ”
all out of strength.
Eric clenched his fist. If his subordinates would not go, who else would? Himself?
He was the commander! If he went, would that not mean his rank was just for show?
“If no one’s going, then we’ll all stay thirsty,” he declared. “I can endure it.”
He had plenty of time and resources to outlast them!
In the distance, Sky and a few residents were in a house, enjoying the air conditioning and eating ice pops while watching Eric and his team.
“Those idiots won’t wait until someone faints before they go looking for water, will they?” One of them chuckled.
Another hour passed, and under the tree, some officers were now lying on the ground.
Eric was reaching his limit. “Where are they? Why haven’t they.come back yet?”
He was almost at his breaking point. Although the tree’s shade protected them from direct sunlight, the heat was bad. Even the breeze felt scorching.
Eric wondered if Sky had forgotten about them, but then he thought that was impossible. He was the commander. How could Sky forget about someone of his rank?
He clearly remembered how respectful Sky had been to the previous commanders. There was no chance he would dare neglect someone of Eric’s status.
“Commander, how much longer do we have to wait?” an officer asked, lying on the ground.
Eric gritted his teeth. “Soon. Just a little longer
Then, another hour passed, and their clothes were like wet towels thoroughly soaked with sweat. A single twist of their clothes would likely yield buckets of water.
“I can’t take it anymore,” several officers mumbled, their consciousness fading.
One officer could not take it any longer. He struggled to his feet and staggered away from
the shade to look for water.
Eric, still in the best condition, was utterly confused. While still under the shade, he wondered to himself, where was everyone? Logically speaking, Sky should have returned

by now.
The truth to the matter was that Sky had returned long ago. He was in a nearby house playing cards with others and enjoying the air conditioning while monitoring Eric’s team.
After a while, the officer who went to find water returned, having actually found some water. However, as soon as he got back, Eric took the water and drank it all himself.
After finishing the water, Eric wiped his mouth and said, “That’s barely enough for anyone. Go and find more!
“And you lot lying on the ground, don’t just lie there. Go find water too!”
The officer who had found the water was speechless.
He took a deep breath and said, “Commander, we should just enter the town ourselves. They have either forgotten about you or are deliberately leaving us out here in the heat.
“The only way we can-”
Before he could finish, Eric interrupted him. “Nonsense! Don’t they know who I am? They wouldn’t have the nerve to ignore me! Go and find more water now. I’ll wait here in case someone comes to invite us in.”
The officer fell silent, deeply disappointed in Eric. It was obvious to everyone that Lytton was deliberately leaving them in the heat, yet Eric still believed they would be invited in.
If they were
going to be invited in, would they have been left out here for so long?
“We’ll go find water,” he said, gathering the other officers.
Even those close to having a heat stroke were not spared, as they were dragged away from the shade.
Once reaching the water source and drinking some water, he said, “We need to leave.”
“Lytton clearly doesn’t welcome us. There’s no point in staying here, and all of you need to go to the hospital.”
