Chapter 382
Marcus found Ethan inside the mansion.
“Ethan, Andy is missing,” Marcus said, his head hung low.
He knew he did not have the confidence or right to ask for Ethan’s help. However, he had no other choice
Swallowing his pride, he pressed on. “Please help us find him.”
Ethan said calmly, “Don’t you know where he is?”
“Foreign territory is vast. It’s not easy for us to find him,” Marcus replied.
“He has always wanted to prove himself. Now that he’s outside the borders, isn’t this exactly what he wanted?”
Upon hearing that, Marcus took out his phone. “He’s not doing well at all out there. He has realized his mistakes.”
He handed his phone over, showing a video of Andy eating like a beggar.
Ethan glanced at it. “Whether he’s having a tough time or not, it was a choice he made.” “He was disrespectful to you before, and I apologize on his behalf. Please have mercy. When he returns,
I’ll have him apologize to you formally. Andy is a good kid and a genius. He’s always wanted to become a military expert. If he dies out there, he won’t be able to apologize to you or have the chance to protect our people.”
Marcus hoped that by mentioning Andy’s potential, Ethan might have an appreciation for talent and save Andy.
However, Ethan looked at him calmly. “If he can’t return from the borders alive, then maybe the Whites need to undergo an elimination process to filter out the elites.”
Marcus gasped. He had tried to convince Ethan that Andy was a genius and deserved to be saved, but Ethan’s meaning was clear: if Andy was indeed a genius, he should be able to return safely on his own. If not, it meant he was not a genius!
Marcus bowed his head and murmured, “You can’t do this-”
Ethan interrupted him. “Are you trying to accuse me of being heartless? Or perhaps say that I don’t care about human lives? Three years ago, you were desperate to make a name for yourself, so you brought seventeen men into foreign territory, right into the enemy’s ambush. Sure, you killed forty–nine enemies, but in the process, all seventeen of your comrades died, sacrificing themselves to let you escape.
“Eighteen of you went in, but only you came back, and you alone took full credit for killing forty–nine enemies. And now, you want to teach me about kindness?”

Marcus was left speechless. He stood frozen in place, unable to more words to convince Ethan to help. However, deep down, he knew only Ethan had the power to bring Andy back safely, Andy had to be saved, no matter what. Not only was Andy the White family’s heir, but he was also his mentee. Most importantly, Andy’s safety was tied to his wife and daughter’s safety. Running out of options, Marcus knelt before Ethan. “Please save him.“.
Ethan glanced at him but said nothing.
Marcus continued kneeling through the night, while Ethan went to bed after having his dinner and taking a bath.
By the time morning arrived, Ethan walked out of his room to find Marcus still kneeling. He had knelt for nearly a full day, his face pale, his body swaying as if it could give out any moment. However, Ethan walked past him without a word.
Around noon, Marcus could barely hold on any longer. That was when Stephen came.
As soon as Stephen walked in and saw Marcus kneeling on the floor, he immediately ran over to help Marcus up. However, Marcus had been kneeling for so long that he could not even stand.
“Ethan, why are you making him kneel?”
Marcus quickly interrupted, “I did it willingly. I’m begging him to save Andy.”
Stephen was surprised. He thought Ethan had forced Marcus to kneel.
“You’ve experienced failure and seen your friend die in front of you, yet you still haven’t learned how to think.” Ethan looked at Stephen and said, “What’s the difference between you and a dead man?”
Stephen wanted to retort, but he knew Ethan was right. He had come in and immediately assumed the worst.
He said quietly, “I thought you forced him to kneel.”
Ethan said calmly, “In North Hill City, you believed Brandon and Shawn were good people and that Danny was an honest man. In Seaside City, you believed Howard was evil. In Aqua City, you thought importing other marine species and introducing new industries would transform the economy, and you thought Snow deceived you. In Celestial City, you thought there was no problem with the mayor. In Hill City. You thought the mayor was your enemy and Nico was on your side. And what about next time? What else are you going to believe in? How many more people must die because of your assumptions?”
Stephen’s face turned as white as a sheet. His body trembled, and his head hung low, too ashamed to speak.
