Chapter 38
Ethan tossed a list onto the table and continued, “Hand over the people on this list, and then, cease all your operations.”
Brandon picked up the list, and as he went through it, his face sank.
The list included discovered moles and some of the town’s most successful businessmen“. They not only manufactured dangerous weapons but also had close ties with foreign entities, helping with human trafficking and smuggling goods.
If Ethan took those people away, they would surely be sentenced to death. More importantly, it would have a massive impact on Lytton’s economic activities.
“You must be joking.” Brandon tried to play dumb. “We don’t have such people in Lytton.”
Ethan calmly replied, “Whether you hand them over or I find them myself makes no difference to me. But for you, the difference will be significant. I assure it.”
Brandon gritted his teeth.
Ethan’s message was clear. Whether they cooperated or not would not deter him in the slightest. He could easily find these people anyway.
If they cooperated, he might go lenient on them; if Ethan had to find them himself, the entire town would pay the price.
“You came here alone. Aren’t you afraid you won’t make it out alive?” Brandon threatened.
Upon hearing that, Ethan did not panic. Instead, the corner of his lips curled into a wide grin.
“I could say my men have Lytton surrounded, and you have no chance of escape, or I could say I’m armed, and you could die by my hand at any moment.
“I could even claim that my people are among you, and you can’t harm me even if you
tried.
Brandon drew a sharp breath. The others also exchanged uneasy glances, already starting to suspect who among them might be a mole.
“Is that why you’re not afraid to come alone?” Brandon asked in a grave tone.
“No,” Ethan answered. “It’s because it’s unnecessary.
“My answer is simple… Your wife and children and theirs too–are in my custody.”
Brandon staggered back two steps as if struck by lightning. He never expected Ethan to have taken his family hostage to threaten him!
“Y–You monster! S–Spare the innocent family members! Don’t take it too far!” Brandon

sputtered.
Ethan looked at him. “You, who allow your subordinates to manufacture weapons and have blood on your hands, dare to lecture me about kindness?”
Brandon was left speechless.
In the end, he had no choice but to hand over everyone on the list to Ethan. They even had to ensure Ethan’s safe departure from Lytton!
That was just the beginning of Ethan’s crackdown on Lytton…
As the memory faded, Brandon sighed. Ethan was like his personal demon. Whenever the man appeared in his dreams, he would wake up from the nightmare drenched in sweat.
“Uncle Brandon, are you okay?” Sky noticed something seemed off with Brandon. Brandon shook his head, saying, “It’s nothing. Go keep an eye on that new commander.”
An hour passed.
Under the tree, Eric was drenched in sweat. His mouth was dry, and he was feeling dizzy. His subordinates had sat down on the ground, feeling like they were about to suffer from heat stroke.
At that moment, a few residents strolled past them, eating ice pops. Eric and his team could not help but gulp hard as they watched the residents with their ice pops. Ice pops. were something they would not have given a second glance before, but now, they craved them desperately.
Eric’s subordinates regretted coming with him. Before leaving, they had been told they would get to sit in comfortable chairs, enjoy air conditioning, and drink premium tea- they were essentially promised a vacation.
Now, they were on the verge of heat stroke, without even a bottle of water, let alone an ice pop!
“Sir, how long do we have to wait?” one asked.
“Weren’t we supposed to be treated to a feast?” another complained.
“What happened to the promised air conditioning?” a third grumbled.
