The South Regent recalled what he offered Ethan earlier: either give him a reason or beat him in a fight. Ethan not only provided him with three indisputable reasons, but he also beat him senseless.
The South Regent never got the upper hand. It had been a one–sided beatdown from start to finish.
Weakly, he said, “Release them.”
Three years had passed, yet whenever the South Regent recalled the humiliating experience, he could not help but sigh emotionally. Had he asked Ethan for a valid reason to release the captive, it might have ended differently.
He believed when he gave Ethan the second option, which was to fight him, he actually fell for Ethan’s trap. He practically gave Ethan the chance to beat him up in public, with no chance to retaliate. Worse yet, he had to accept defeat and acknowledge it.
Andy looked at the South Regent, who had just admitted his defeat to Ethan.
His eyes gleamed with confidence as he said, “Great. I want to challenge you.”

If some country bumpkin like Ethan could beat the South Regent, there was no way he–a young man from the capital–would lose. Now, even the South Regent was showing him
respect.
The South Regent looked at Andy. “You want to challenge me?”
“Yeah. Ten moves. I’ll defeat you in ten moves!” Andy declared.
The South Regent laughed.
Rumor had it that he lost to Ethan within ten moves, but the truth was much simpler. His men had made up the “ten moves” story to save face. In reality, he lost to Ethan in the very first
move.
He found it funny now. In trying to protect his reputation, the only thing his men could come up with was to spread the news of his loss to Ethan in ten moves. It was not a close fight or even a hard–fought battle with a single misstep. He was just holding on for ten moves.
The South Regent asked, “Why do you want to challenge me?”
“To prove I’m stronger than Ethan Rivers. If a country bumpkin like him can beat you, so can I.”
The South Regent could not help but laugh. “Alright then. Show me what you can do.”
He signaled for his men to stand down.
Andy took a firm stance and then threw a punch at the South Regent’s face. However, the South Regent stepped to the side, easily dodging the punch, and lifted his leg to kick Andy to
the floor.
Shocked, Andy scrambled to his feet and swung another kick at the man. Again, the South Regent caught his foot and spun him around, flinging him into the air after two spins.
“Ugh!”
Andy groaned in pain as he fell, tumbling to a miserable stop.
He laid down for a while before he got back up.
“You still want to fight? You’re no match for me, the South Rogent said.
“Impossible!” Andy got up angrily. “I was just caught off guard! Now I’m serious!”
His words surprised the South Regent as it rang a bell. It sounded familiar because it was the same words he said to Ethan three years ago.
Hearing them again now, he realized how ridiculous he must have sounded back then overconfident and too stubborn to admit defeat. In Ethan’s eyes, he must have seemed like an ignorant fool.
