“What’s going on?” Eric kept staring in the direction Sky had left.
He was confused as to why Sky had not returned after so long. In all his previous visits, such poor reception had never happened before.
Previously, they would be warmly invited inside, offered air conditioning, and served tea. The tea was top–grade, and the water was from natural springs–all luxuries beyond the reach of ordinary people.
If that was the treatment he had received prior to his promotion, Eric was eager to learn how they would treat him post–promotion.
He assumed Lytton would receive him with open arms, offering him rare delicacies and precious local specialties… However, in reality, he was left sweltering under a tree.
“This doesn’t seem right,” he muttered, straining his eyes.
He had hoped to solve the case in half a day, but now he had to revise his plans. He would consider it a success just to see the mayor within that time frame.
Meanwhile, the air conditioning in the town council office was set to a cool 23 degrees Celcius, and Sky was relaying the intelligence he had just gathered to Brandon.
“Uncle Brandon, it’s certain that Ethan Rivers has been arrested,” Sky reported. “The two police e commanders associated with him have been removed. I even have a recording of my conversation with the new commander.”
Sky did not think much of Eric, so he did not even bother to remember the man’s name. He handed the voice recorder to Brandon.
Brandon’s eyes lit up as he played the recording, learning that Ethan had really fallen. However, he quickly regained his composure.
“Where’s this new commander now?”
“He’s still waiting at the town entrance,” Sky answered. “Don’t worry, Uncle Brandon. We have people watching them, ensuring they can’t enter the town.”
Brandon nodded. “Good work. Let them wait there for now. We can’t be careless about this. It could be a trap set by Ethan.
“Have our people watch them closely. If he makes any calls, report it immediately.”
Brandon was still uneasy about it as Ethan had truly traumatized him.
Their previous respect for the two commanders was because they were Ethan’s eyes and ears. Offending them was equivalent to offending Ethan, and they could not afford Ethan’s wrath.

Despite his experience, Brandon found it hard to remain calm in Ethan’s presence.
After taking a deep breath, he said with a forced smile, “We didn’t know you were coming today, sir. Please forgive Lytton for not welcoming you properly.”
Ethan walked into the hall and said, “I don’t need your welcome. I need you to answer for your actions.”
“Answer?” Brandon’s heart skipped a beat. “Answer for what?”
