Chapter 341
Seeing Ethan about to leave, Stephen quickly asked, “Where are you going?”
“To see someone else.”
Stephen was confused. Who was that someone else?
Julius and Tommy were both there. However, he soon remembered that Nico was also in the hospital!
“Are you going to see Nico? What are you planning to do?”
Ethan was a high–priority target under strict surveillance, and so was Nico. The thought of them meeting made Stephen uneasy.
Were they planning an escape?
Ethan said calmly, “I’m not planning anything. He’s the one who wants to meet me.‘
As the door to the morgue opened, the doctor was stunned to see Ethan walking out.
He wondered, ‘Who’s this guy? And why was there someone else in the morgue?‘
Soon, Stephen also came out, following right behind Ethan as they walked to Nico’s ward.
In the ward, Nico lay awake, staring blankly at the ceiling. At the sound of the door opening, he stirred for the first time in hours.
When he saw Ethan come in, he shot up in bed.
Nico asked, “Are you here to mock me? I lost, so go ahead and laugh if you want.”
He leaned against the headboard, his eyes fixed on the window, his face expressionless.
Ethan said calmly, “Tommy came to see me before. He asked me for a way to stop you.”
Nico’s hardened expression faltered for a moment.
“At first, I gave him two options. The first was to report you, and the second was to leave you.”
ย
Nico turned his head and asked, “It seems even the solutions you give can fail.”
Ethan said calmly, “You’re wrong. He didn’t want to leave. He knew that those two choices meant your certain death, so he knelt before me and asked for a third option.”
Nico’s expression slowly shifted from confusion to shock. A third option… He remembered the scene of him shooting Tommy.
“You mean, the third option was…” Nico’s voice caught, and he could not finish his thought.

“Yes.” Ethan nodded. “The third option was to sacrifice himself to give you a chance to turn back.”
The light in Nico’s eyes instantly dimmed.
Standing nearby, Stephen was equally shocked when he heard the truth about Tommy’s death. It turned out that Tommy’s sacrifice was not just to save George. He had intended to give his life from the very beginning!
At that moment, Stephen finally understood what Ethan meant when he said, “Why did he have to die, but not you?”
Tommy’s death was no accident. He had been prepared from the start. However, because of George and Stephen’s incompetence, Julius and Tommy could only choose to die!
“How could this be?”
Stephen staggered backward until he found himself pressed against the wall, struggling to stand.
When Nico learned the truth of Tommy’s death, he broke down on the bed, sobbing uncontrollably.
“I know I was wrong.”
His cries were heart–wrenching. He desperately wished he could turn back time, back to the moment he made the call to buy the gun. If only he had not been blinded by hatred and obtained that gun, everything would have been different.
Ethan watched the scene unfold silently. Tommy had succeeded in making Nico finally realize his mistake, but it was too late.
Nico had been arrested, and Stone Village, home to 10 thousand inhabitants, would be left leaderless. Without anyone to guide them, the villagers would only spiral further into
chaos.
The South Regent would then seize that opportunity to march into Hill City. With the only person who could manage Hill City, Julius, dead, the chaos in Hill City was only beginning! Ethan said nothing more. Those matters had nothing to do with him anyway. D
“It’s getting late. I should go,” Ethan said, leaving the words hanging in the air as he turned and walked out of the ward.
Stephen snapped back to his senses. He still had questions for Ethan. Without wasting a moment, he hurried after Ethan.
At the hospital entrance, he called out to Ethan. “Did you know how to save everyone from the start?”

Ethan stopped in his tracks.
“Yes.”
Stephen asked, “Then why didn’t you do anything?”
“Why should I do anything?” Ethan retorted. “Isn’t it your responsibility to save them?”
Stephen had no answer for that.
Instead, he asked, “What should we do now?”
Ethan said, “That’s something you need to figure out.”
