Chapter 340
“Are you Julius‘ friend?”
Stephen grew even more nervous. After all, Julius‘ death was partly his fault. How could he face Julius‘ friend? The person must surely hate him.
Just as Stephen started to back away slowly, wanting to leave…
“Since you’re here, why are you leaving without saying a word?” the person said.
Stephen shuddered, simply because that voice belonged to Ethan!
He hurriedly walked over, and sure enough, it was Ethan.
“What are you doing here?” Stephen asked in surprise.
Ethan was supposed to be locked up in Drakthorn Ridge. It was the third time he had seen Ethan outside of Drakthorn Ridge.
“I came to see him off,” Ethan replied.
Back when he was in Hill City, he had interacted with Julius and thought highly of him. With Julius in Hill City, the city’s GDP could have risen by a trillion within ten years. Unfortunately, Julius did not have those years anymore.
Ethan held two bouquets and gently placed one next to Julius‘ body. Stephen watched silently, afraid to take out the wine that he brought.
“Am I laughable?” Stephen questioned.
Julius‘ death and his final words had shaken Stephen deeply, leaving him doubting himself.
Ethan said indifferently, “Are you just realizing that now?”
He slowly walked over to Tommy’s body and placed the other bouquet beside it. Tommy had stood before him not long ago, but now, they were separated by life and death. What a fleeting life.
Stephen whispered, “Nico accidentally killed him while he was shielding George. This matter had nothing to do with him.”
Ethan looked at Stephen and asked, “Is that what you think? Do you think his death is meaningless?”
Stephen instantly lowered his head. “No.”
“Do you remember how many cities you’ve ruined?”
Stephen trembled, his body tense as he responded, “Four.”

“Four, and what did you learn?”
Stephen fell silent.
Had he learned anything? Every time he grew confident, his enemies would teach him a harsh lesson, telling him that he had not learned anything!
“Do you know how many people you’ve left homeless?”
Stephen had no answer.
Ethan said calmly, “If we had to choose a new leader for Riveria, any Tom, Dick, or Harry would be more qualified than you. That’s because by doing nothing at all, the result would still be better than what you’ve done.”
Those words struck a chord in Stephen.
He had consistently failed four cities and held them back. Now, it was Hill City.
Julius was dead because of him, and Tommy died to save him. He truly was no better than any Tom, Dick, or Harry!
Ethan gently covered Tommy with the white sheet. “The person lying here should’ve been
you.
The person uninvolved with these matters in your opinion gave his life for Hill City. Why are you, who are responsible for Riveria, still alive?”
Stephen felt like he could barely breathe.
He did not know how to answer. He could only bow his head deeply, not daring to meet Ethan’s eyes.
The matter had nothing to do with Tommy, but the latter sacrificed his life for Hill City. As the person in charge of Riveria, what should Stephen do?
He should be willing to die for Hill City as well! However, he was still alive and well. He was truly too embarrassed to look at Tommy.
“I’m sorry.” Stephen said, “I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“They can’t hear your apology,” Ethan spoke and simply left,
Stephen’s heart ached, and the air in the morgue felt colder.
