Stephen sat frozen in place. What Julius said to him about not getting deceived again hit him hard. On his journey of managing Riveria, he had been deceived in every city and tricked by mayors three times.
Stephen trembled, his face pale. What did he have to do to know whether someone was tricking him? What was real, and what was fake?
“Dad, I can’t tell. I really can’t tell!” He broke down.
Stephen believed he had been trying and doing well, having grown from his many mistakes. Yet now, he realized that although he had grown, his enemies were still stronger. Being a Quinn did not mean that people would heed his every word.
How many lives had been lost because he was deceived?
This time, it even led to the death of the mayor, Julius, who cared for Hill City so deeply and wanted to help him manage the city.
Stephen held Julius‘ body and felt hopeless for the second time. The first time was when he
scolded Snow and then heard news of her death.
He started to doubt himself. Could he really govern Riveria? Besides, how did Ethan develop Riveria? The enemies were so ruthless and cunning that they played everyone like a fiddle!

Not long after that thought crossed his mind, his phone rang. The call was from someone in Metropolis.
Simon’s eyes lit up. Was someone giving him the opportunity to brag already?
He quickly answered the call but froze the moment he heard what the person said.
“Simon, your son is in trouble.”
“Huh?” Simon was bewildered.

“The mayor of Hill City is dead, and your son is involved!”
“What?” Simon was astonished.
That news was beyond shocking. What did Stephen do?
“What happened? Tell me the details.”
“I just got the news too. The details will have to wait. Go investigate it yourself.”
As soon as the call ended, Simon contacted Hill City’s police chief. The man, however, already had a sense that things had gotten complicated. He relayed everything that had happened to Simon, leaving no detail out.
It turned out his son had been deceived again, and this time, it was worse than ever. Stephen had mistaken Julius as the enemy and Nico as a friend, ultimately turning George against Julius. In the end, Julius had to sacrifice himself to stop Nico.
Simon was furious with Stephen. “Even if he messed up once, it shouldn’t have ended like this!”
The consequences of Stephen’s actions were devastating. Julius was dead, Nico was gravely injured, Tommy was also dead, George had assaulted someone, and Stephen was played like a fiddle by Nico.
If the truth got out online, Stephen would be done for. Even if they spared Stephen, public opinion online would not because Stephen caused Julius‘ death!
