Just then, Julius struggled, forcing himself to stand up. He knew he could not let Nico
escape.
With his last breath, he managed to pick up the gun lying on the ground. Although he stumbled around, his eyes were locked onto Nico’s back.
He, the mayor of Hill City, had witnessed Hill City’s most difficult times many years ago. Back then, he had vowed never to let the city return to its old days. Yet now, Nico was destroying the city and about to escape while he himself was at death’s door.
How could he let the criminal escape?
Failing to recognize Nico’s plot was already a lapse in his duty. If he allowed Nico to escape, how could he face the citizens of Hill City and answer to the heroes who had sacrificed themselves for the city?
Julius aimed the gun at Nico, his hands trembling. However, he gritted his teeth and ran toward Nico.

He shouted in a panic, “Stop!”
A gunshot sounded with a bang.
The smile on Nico’s face froze, and he looked down in a daze, seeing blood seeping around his chest. That was when it struck him that he had been shot and the bullet came from
behind!
Nico could not believe it. His plan was only one step away from succeeding, but someone shot him. Who was it? Was it George or Stephen?
He turned his head, only to see Julius instead. He was shocked. He thought Julius was almost dead, but the man managed to shoot him, destroying his plan right before it could succeed!
Nico slumped to the ground powerlessly, staring at the sky with wide eyes. The sky was dark with clouds, similar to the day when he carried Lars‘ body down the mountain.

“Ethan… Is this part of your plan too?”
Wanting to get revenge on Ethan and Hill City had ended up costing him his son’s life, and wanting to kill Ethan had only resulted in him being shot.
Nico lost all hope. There was no winning when Ethan could easily destroy his whole family while still being in Drakthorn Ridge!
Suddenly, another gunshot rang out. Julius had publicly opened fire and was seen as a threat to those around him, so he was shot by the officers that Stephen and George had called over.
The gun in his hand fell to the ground, and he fell back with his eyes wide open.
“No!”
Stephen ran out and caught Julius from behind, stopping him from falling to the ground.
Seeing the two gunshots on Julius‘ body, Stephen’s eyes filled with tears. Everything happened because they believed Nico instead of trusting Julius.
He was tricked again, and to make things worse, he was tricked twice this time. He thought Julius was the enemy and Nico was a friend, but it was the exact opposite. Julius was his friend, and Nico was the enemy!
Julius used the last of his breath to say to Stephen, “Don’t… be deceived again.”
Then, he closed his eyes. His head lolled to the side, and he stopped moving completely.
George limped outside, injured from his fight with Julius earlier. When he saw Julius‘ body, he was shocked. He had never expected the night to end like that.
He slumped to the ground powerlessly, his mind buzzing. What had he done? If he had not believed Nico and attacked Julius, would things have ended differently?
“He shouldn’t have died. It should’ve been me!”
