Nico slammed the table.
“Anyone can tell me to let go of the past but you! Have you forgotten who made me kill my own brother? Who caused my parents‘ illness and who made my wife leave? Who made me lose everything?”
He regretted not bringing a gun, or else he would be pointing it at Ethan’s head.
Ethan took a sip of tea calmly. “You’re wrong.‘
“I’m wrong?” Nico looked at him with his eyes widened.
“You’re Lars Wyatt’s accomplice and helped him hurt a lot of people. You haven’t taken any lives, but what you did earned you at least ten years behind bars.
“Since your old parents helped us before and they couldn’t afford to lose two sons at once, plus the fact that you have a son, I gave you a chance to redeem yourself. Your brother noticed it. That’s why he made you kill him.
“Lars chose death not just because he wants to give you all the credit. He also wanted to protect you. Only with his death, you wouldn’t be exposed.”
Nico’s eyes widened in shock.
Ethan looked at him and continued, “That’s why. You’re wrong. It was not me who killed Lars Wyatt. It was he who chose death so that you could live.”

Nico was shocked. He collapsed on the couch, seemingly exhausted.
It was not Ethan who killed Lars, but Lars had chosen death so that Nico could live? In other words, Nico was the cause of Lars‘ death?
The outcome was so shocking that his soul was shaking.
Ethan was not his foe but his benefactor?
“What? How?” Nico’s worldview collapsed on him. “This is false!”
He could not accept it. His hatred for Ethan was the reason why he made it out of prison for three years and had been waiting for this day. However, he now found out that Ethan was also the reason why he lived.

Nico ran out of the mansion in a hurry.
When he left the mansion and the mountainous breeze blew over him, he calmed down. ” He must be lying to me, trying to disrupt me and stop my plan! He won’t succeed! I will destroy Hill City!” +
Nico went back. When he went back to Stone Village, Tommy asked him, “Dad, did you see Ethan?”
“Mm–hmm.”
“What did he say?” Nico bellowed, “Mind your own damn business!”
Tommy was afraid. He did not try to argue with his father, but simply walked out and then bought an air ticket to the capital.
Later that evening, he arrived at Drakthorn Ridge, and similar to his father, he snuck into the woods to avoid the guards. The father and son used the same method to reach Ethan but both of them harbored different intentions.
Tommy anxiously walked into the mansion, and when he saw Ethan, he gulped nervously.
“Mr. Rivers,” he said respectfully before he even got close.
Ethan smiled at Tommy.
The father had just left and the son arrived. Judging from Tommy’s messy hair and the leaf on his shoulder, he knew the father and son had come through the woods.
Tommy went up to Ethan and fell down on his knees with a thump.
“Mr. Rivers, please stop my father. He killed the village chief of Stone Village and usurped his position. He’s leading people into the woods to commit deforestation, hunt protected animals, and excessively gather herbs, plus devastate the mines. They are working for the people beyond the borders as well!”
Tommy spilled every crime his father had done up until this point. “He wants to ruin Hill City!”
Ethan said, “I know. Your father came to me this morning and bragged about his deeds to me.”
Tommy looked surprised. He knew his father was bold but not as much as bragging in front of Ethan.
Ethan said, “Get up. I have something I want to ask you.”
Tommy stood up and stood still timidly.

“How old are you?”
“Nineteen.”
“Still in high school or college?”
“I’m in college.”
“Girlfriend?”
Tommy was slightly taken aback by the surprise question. He answered shyly, “Yes.” He felt like Ethan was his parent questioning him.
Ethan continued, “What are your plans after you graduate?”
“Get a job in the city, save money to buy a house, and get married…” Tommy’s neck shrank as he explained, afraid that Ethan would call him useless.
Ethan looked calm. “I got your uncle killed, your grandparents died of illness and caused your mother to leave you. What do you think about that?” he asked.
