Then, the village chief, Hendrick, arrived. When he entered the room and saw Nico, his brows furrowed.
Due to the incident shree years ago, the village hold a huge grudge against Nico and his family. Initially, they wanted to exile Nico and his family, but after Lars died and Nico was imprisoned, their parents fell ill before passing way soon after. Nico’s wife left as well.
After Nico was released, he lived with his son, Tommy, The villagers took pity on him and allowed him and his son to continue living in Stone Village.
Hendrick then looked at the mayor, Julius, and George, and said, “Gentlemen, a word?”
Julius noticed the disgust in Hendrick’s.eyes when he saw Nico, and it baffled him. Nico was welcoming and easy–going, so why would people hate him?
After leaving Nico’s house, Julius asked, “Hendrick, I saw you frowning at Nico. What did he do?”
Hendrick sighed and said, “You might not know about this, but Nico’s brother, Lars, is a criminal. He has killed, raided, and committed every atrocious act known to men three years ago, and Nico took his own brother’s life. His parents were deeply upset and fell ill, eventually passing away. His wife also left him.”
Julius and George were surprised by the revelation. They did not expect Nico to be such a ruthless man. They recalled their conversation with Nico and could not link him to such an
atrocious act.
Julius sighed. “Well, he’s a pitiful man as well.
Hendrick scoffed, “Pitiful? The families that his brother ruined are pitiful. Nico got what he deserved.”
Back at Nico’s house, the young man saw them off before going back inside.
“Dad, who are those people? Mr. Kamar seems to respect them a lot.” The young man was none other than Nico’s son, Tommy, his only remaining family member.
Nico scoffed, “The slim man is the mayor, Julius Sanders. As for the other one, if I’m not mistaken, that’s the governor, George Lowe.”
Tommy was surprised to see the mayor and the governor in person. “What are they doing there? Are they here to investigate us? We’ve turned over a new leaf, haven’t we?”
Nico’s expression turned cold. “Turned over a new leaf? Didn’t you see Hendrick’s expression when he came in? Even if we aren’t who we used to be, they won’t acknowledge it.”

Tommy shook his head. “This isn’t right. I’ve spoken to Mr. Rivers before. He said if we can let go of the past, we can live a happy life. He even said…”
“Don’t even mention Ethan Rivers!” Nico angrily interrupted his son. “He’s the reason why your Uncle Lars is dead. Your grandparents are dead because of him as well, and he made your mother leave us! He’s the reason why our family is in ruins! Ethan Rivers is our enemy!”
Tommy pursed his lips in silence. He was no longer a child. He knew how Stone Village and Hill City had changed over time.
After Ethan arrived, people’s lives got better.
While his father was in prison, Tommy survived solely on Ethan’s poverty family fund. This very year, he got into university and even had a girlfriend, something he dared not even fantasize about a few years ago.
He wanted to persuade his father to let go of the grudge, but this was not the time since Nico was currently consumed by vengeance and anger.
Nico returned to his room and made a phone call.
Lars had contact beyond the borders. When Nico came out of prison, he, too, contacted them to make some quick money. Unfortunately, he did not get the chance back then.
Now, he made the call again, hoping to purchase a handgun.
Several hours later, the discussion between the mayor, village chief, and the villagers wrapped up.
Since George already had enough rest, they left Stone Village together.
Nico saw them off with a cold gaze. Ethan had disappeared, and now Stephen and George had taken over. Those two could never stop him!
