Celestial City’s population began to decrease, and its reputation started to deteriorate.
However, Stephen and George did not notice any of this yet. They were still overwhelmed by Lucas’s suicide attempt. They sent people to investigate the truth.
The results showed that everything the villagers said was true. Not only were they not criminals, but they were also heroes who had made great sacrifices for Celestial City years ago.
However, they had slandered these very heroes, calling them criminals and leaving them homeless!
This was an extremely grave issue!
“Where’s the mayor?” Stephen demanded. “How did he conduct his investigation to cause such a mess? We can’t let him escape!”
The assistant replied, “We’ve been watching him. So far, he’s been staying at home with no signs of leaving. He can’t run away.”
Stephen breathed a sigh of relief. If the mayor had not fled, it meant he was not trying to deceive them. He must be thinking of ways to resolve this too.
“Let me report this matter to my father first, then we’ll deal with him.”
He took out his phone to call Simon Quinn.
Meanwhile, at the federal government headquarters, Simon was called in for a meeting.
“What’s going on?” Simon looked at everyone in the conference room, puzzled. He noticed their grim expressions.
Some glared at him fiercely. “What’s going on? How dare you ask that?!”
Simon frowned as he sat down. “Why can’t I? You all are wearing these expressions as soon as I arrive. How should I know what this is about? If you have something to say, quickly spit it out. I’m in a hurry.
“I need to go back and arrange a rehearsal to celebrate Celestial City’s economy recovering to 2.5 trillion dollars.
“Then, I need to prepare to receive congratulatory messages for when it reaches 3.5 trillion dollars.”
Mentioning this soured everyone’s mood even further.
Simon had been constantly calling them to brag about how great Celestial City was doing, making them envious.

If Celestial City was truly doing well, that would be one thing.
However, earlier that morning, they received news that Celestial City was in trouble. Several villages that had participated in the city’s defense years ago had their land seized, leaving all the villagers homeless. When one of the village chiefs went to Stephen and George for an explanation, he was falsely accused of being a criminal. Overcome with anger, the village chief had attempted suicide and was still unconscious.
That village chief was also a hero—his wife and children had all died in battle.
When the government officials heard the news, they were furious.
Seizing village land? Forcing a heroic village chief to attempt suicide to prove his innocence?
What were Stephen and George trying to do? Eliminate heroes completely? Did they have any conscience left? Were they even human?
Anyone with a shred of humanity would not be capable of such actions.
Someone asked coldly, “Simon, do you really not know or are you merely pretending?”
Simon looked bewildered. “Know what? Just spit it out. Why all this secrecy?”
Everyone took a deep breath.
One person commented in disdain, “You’ll no longer need to prepare for a rehearsal or celebration. Because Celestial City has a problem.“,
“What?” Simon was stunned, doubting what he had heard.
Was Celestial City not doing fine? Why were there problems all of a sudden?
Simon immediately asked, “What happened?”
“Stephen and George falsely accused a hero, causing him to attempt suicide to prove his innocence.”
Simon’s eyes widened upon hearing this.
Falsely accusing a hero? This was a serious matter!
“That hero is a village chief. He originally had a family of five, but his wife and three children all died in the battle to protect Celestial City. His wife, in particular, was killed while trying to secretly deliver food to the Grand Marshal when they were surrounded.”
Simon felt his mouth go dry and swallowed hard.
This made the problem even more serious!
