Chapter 261
“You’re lying! The mayor clearly gave us 6 grand, and we were never a criminal organization,” one of the villagers protested.
“Our children sacrificed their lives to protect Riveria!” another added.
“Those weapons were meant to fight our enemies.”
Having already given his warning, Michael did not want to deal with these people anymore.
He spat dismissively, “Just leave. Everyone’s busy. Don’t act entitled after getting what you were given.”
Lucas was thunderstruck, unable to believe the outcome. The mayor had taken their village away, and now Stephen Quinn refused to meet them. With this, it meant that they no longer had a place to live.
Warm tears rolled down old Lucas’s cheeks. He never imagined that after all the sacrifices their entire village, including his own family, had made for Riveria and Celestial City, this would be their fate.
“Children, everyone, I’ve failed you!” Lucas cried out. Then, in full view of everyone, he slammed his head against the wall.
Bang!
Blood immediately began trickling down the wall.
“Village chief!” several villagers shouted, rushing to catch him.

Bystanders watched in shock, and only a few quick–thinking individuals scrambled to call an ambulance.
Michael’s face had gone pale.
Someone was attempting suicide at their doorstep? If news of this got out, it would be a disaster!
“Quick, lay him on the ground and use your clothes to stop the bleeding!” Michael called out urgently.
Some villagers glared at him angrily. “This is all your fault! You’re the one who hurt our village chief!”
“Five years ago, the village chief’s wife was killed while delivering food to the Grand Marshal’s troops. Four years ago
all three of his children died fighting for Celestial City.”
“And you dare call us a criminal organization?!
“I’d say you’re the real criminals here!”

A hot–headed young villager shouted, “I’ll fight you!”
Fortunately, some of the more level–headed villagers held him back.
Michael was dumbfounded upon hearing this. These people were not criminals but heroes? By now, people around them had started recording videos with their phones. What they were hearing was shocking. Old heroes being driven to suicide?
Upon seeing the crowd recording, several of the more composed villagers knelt down in the street.
“Everyone, please hear us out,” one began. “We used to live in the villages around Azure Cloud Mountain. We were forced to relocate because of the development zone, but the mayor only gave us 6 grand per square meter as compensation.
“With such a low price, we can’t afford to buy homes in the city. We came here seeking justice, but they claim that they gave us 11 grand per square meter. They even falsely accused us of being a criminal organization.
“But everyone in Celestial City knows that when the city was in turmoil, our villages fought desperately against enemies.
“This man who just hit his head on the wall is our village chief. His wife and three children all died fighting to protect Celestial City.”
The crowd looked shocked. They gathered around, recording every word clearly on their phones.
“Moreover, while we have lived near Azure Cloud Mountain and Crystal Lake since childhood, we’ve never heard of any story about a priest and a snake demon. It’s all a lie they made up!”
The villagers were utterly disheartened. They came seeking justice only to be falsely accused. Their village chief attempted suicide in despair, and now they had nowhere to live. If things continued like this, they would not be able to survive. Since Stephen Quinn and George Lowe were so cold–hearted towards them, they decided to expose their lies publicly. “There have never been any legends about Azure Cloud Mountain and Crystal Lake.” “Crystal Lake is just an ordinary lake!”
The crowd gasped in shock. That touching story was fake?
