Chapter 241
“L…”
Stephen’s face turned pale, and his voice trembled. He could not get a word out.
Ethan looked at him. “Do you feel like crying? Crying won’t stop the clock.”
Stephen knew the situation in Celestial City was getting out of hand. If he did not act fast, the city would be in real trouble, and if something happened to Celestial City, it would be disastrous.
Panicked, he quickly got up and ran outside.
On the way to Celestial City, he gave George a call. “Hold the fort down in Celestial City!”
George shouted, “I’m trying!”
He, too, was dealing with a headache. After all, he was in charge of Riveria now. If anything happened to Celestial City, the responsibility would fall on him!
George immediately contacted the businesses preparing to leave Celestial City.
“Why are you all leaving out of the blue? Is something in Celestial City’s policies pushing you away?”
George was baffled. Everything had been going fine, so why did they suddenly want to leave? There had been no significant changes in Celestial City lately.
“Celestial City’s policies are great.”
The policies were the ones Ethan put in place, and they were all very happy with them. However, now that Ethan was no longer in charge of Riveria, they saw no reason to stay. Many of them had stayed so long hoping that Ethan might return. However, not long ago, Ethan had sent word through the South Regent, telling them not to wait for him anymore.
That was the tipping point for many. Some decided to pack up and leave, but there were still a few who wanted to wait.
Then came the sudden announcement stating that Stephen was the Grand Marshal’s mentee and Ethan had been nothing more than an imposter. Although it was wrong of Ethan, considering he had done some good, they claimed they would not press charges against him.
The business could not help but laugh in disbelief. How shameless could someone be to say such a thing?
Not only were they shameless, but they were also blind!
What was Riveria like when Ethan was around? It transformed from a war–torn area with a

GDP of less than a trillion into the most prosperous province with a GDP of 15 trillion. However, what happened to Riveria after Stephen took over?

In North Hill City, the mayor colluded with Lytton, embezzled large sums of money, damaged the city’s water source, and even wrecked a wildlife preserve meant to protect endangered species!
In Seaside City, Howard was arrested, leaving Dennis with no rival and causing the whole city to be thrown into chaos!
Then, Aqua City, once a thriving tourist and fishing city, was turned into an industrial one, leaving the locals without a livelihood, and eight lives were even lost as a result of it all!
They could not understand it. Ethan had worked so hard and accomplished so much, yet he did not get any kind of reward. Now, he had disappeared, with no news of whether he was dead or alive.
What about Stephen? Every decision he made was a disaster. He ruined three cities, but he only went from managing Riveria to assisting with its management. There were hardly any consequences at all!
Everyone found it unfair. Ethan, a true hero who worked for the people, did not deserve to have a gun pointed at him for standing up for the people.
They could not stand it anymore. Their minds were made up–they were done!
The CEOs of several companies glared at George. “You can ruin Celestial City and Riveria however you want. We’re done playing your game.”
Without a second thought, they turned and walked out, not even bothering to exchange another word with George.
George panicked.
Why were they suddenly accusing him of ruining Celestial City and Riveria? He would never do such a thing.
If Riveria thrived, so would his career. If the GDP hit 20 trillion, he could even make it into the cabinet and live easily for the rest of his life
“There must be some sort of misunderstanding.” George shouted, “I truly care about Celestial City and Riveria. As long as you stay, we can work them out.”
However, no one stopped. There was nothing left to talk about.
With Ethan gone, no one was left to keep the foreign forces in check. The South Regent was already showing his fangs.
