Chapter 234
Why had Ethan not mentioned it before? If he had said he was the Grand Marshal’s mentee, would things have come to that point?
Little did Simon know that Ethan had mentioned it more than once, but Stephen did not
believe it.
“If Shawn and Howard didn’t post those photos, we would’ve almost gotten away with it.”
At the thought of Shawn and Howard, Simon’s eyes lit up as an idea struck him.
“It’s fake.” Simon said, “I’ve investigated it. These posts and photos all came from beyond the border. Someone is intentionally stirring up trouble, and I suspect it to be Shawn and Howard.”
The others immediately found it possible, but they still had someone check the origin of those posts. Sure enough, they were from beyond the border.
“It seems like they’re really intent on causing trouble.”
“How despicable. They’ve escaped, yet instead of hiding, how dare they show themselves again?”
“We need to arrest them quickly!”
“But for now, most importantly, we must clear up the situation.”
The federal government immediately issued a statement. “The photos are fake. They were deliberately made by foreign forces to cause trouble and sabotage!”
When people saw it online, they breathed a sigh of relief. None of them wanted it to be true either. After all, they had insulted Ethan not long ago, saying the most horrible things about wishing they could catch him and beat him up to death.
Yet now, they were told that Ethan was the Grand Marshal’s mentee, the hero who protected Riveria? That would be a slap to their faces.
To them, Ethan being a criminal was the best outcome. That way, they were not in the wrong! They could continue hating on Ethan!
Simon was pleased that he had successfully muddled through the situation and even the federal government spoke up for him. Who would dare to question him now?
They must establish the narrative that Ethan was impersonating the Grand Marshal’s mentee!
Beyond the border, Howard and the others saw Simon’s move. They felt defeated that they failed the damage the Quinns‘ name and help Ethan. Although they had stirred up some chaos, it was quickly squashed.

The Quinns dominated Riveria and had the federal government’s help while Howard and his group were exiled fugitives beyond the borders. Trying to clear Ethan’s name would be impossible because nobody would believe them. This time, it seemed they could not win.
Simon was in a good mood. Now that he held the advantage, no one could save Ethan. However, just then, a group of women took to the streets of Riveria with their children.
“Mr. Rivers really is the Grand Marshal’s mentee!”
“Three years ago, my husband went to the frontlines with Mr. Rivers!”
“Mr. Rivers risked his life and joined the frontlines multiple times. He went through so much to return peace to Riveria, yet Stephen twisted the truth and framed Mr. Rivers. Where is the justice?”
“God, I’ve never begged you when my husband died, nor did I complain, but now, we beg you to help Mr. Rivers. He suffered too much!”
The widows of war heroes cried on the streets. Including the elderly and children, there were over three hundred people.
The passersby on the streets were stunned, and many took out their phones to record the scene and started a livestream.
Liam received the news and immediately rushed over. Seeing those people standing up for Ethan moved him deeply. Their husbands had once given their lives for the safety of Riveria, earning their titles as heroes, and now, in speaking up to clear Ethan’s name, those women were heroes too!
As such, he ordered his men to ensure their safety and provide protection.
The people around noticed the police arriving but had no intention of stopping the group, so they asked curiously, “Why aren’t you stopping them?”
“Because… the freedom you enjoy on these streets today was bought with the lives of their husbands.”
