Ethan looked at George and Rachel calmly, saying, “Sure, but I have three conditions.”
George was delighted that Ethan had finally agreed to help. It seemed like bringing Rachel along was the right choice! He must still have feelings for Rachel!
With the Lowes‘ and the Quinns‘ status, they could easily fulfill his three conditions.
George flashed a confident smile.
“Go ahead. Tell me what you need.”
Ethan said with a smile, “First, give me a reason why I have to help. Second, if it’s related to the Quinns, I’m not helping. Third, anything related to Riveria is off the table.”
The smile on George’s face froze. The three conditions were basically another way for Ethan to say he was not going to help.
George had come all this way to get Snow’s location so that Stephen could get himself together to take care of the mess in Aqua City. In other words, Ethan had to help the Quinns and Riveria.
He frowned and said, “Are you joking?”

Ethan glanced at her and said calmly, “Even though I expected this, I underestimated your stupidity. If treating people kindly was all it took to make the messy Riveria thrive and prosper, you could just get two kind–hearted people from the streets and Riveria could become the strongest province in the world.”
George and Rachel froze. The shock of his words made them stagger backward.
What Ethan was trying to say was that he used to appear friendly because the Lowes were never his enemy.
George clenched his teeth. “Ethan, you used to be a good person—
“If you guys are here to sing my praises, I’ve got pen and paper. You can write them down. and leave once you’re done,” Ethan interrupted, cutting George off mid–sentence.
George felt his blood pressure spike.

How had he never realized that Ethan’s words could cut deeper than any sword? While one could defend against a sword, Ethan’s words left no room for defense. George and Rachel had no way to argue back!
Rachel said, “We are here for Stephen. He’s fallen ill because of Snow. You know where the girl is. Can you please tell me where she is?
“Seeing Stephen in so much pain breaks my heart. Please, for me, just tell me where Snow is.”
She even wore a pitiful look on her face.
George nodded. He believed bringing Rachel along was the right choice because Ethan might very well reveal Snow’s location for old times‘ sake.
Ethan looked at Rachel calmly, somewhat expressionless. He was not moved by her pitiful
look.
“So you want Snow back just so Stephen will start hitting you again?”
His comment changed the look on Rachel’s face.
For a moment there, countless memories flashed in her mind. Stephen had scolded and beaten her more than once because of Snow.
“Don’t you realize? Snow being gone is the best thing for you? With Snow out of the picture, Stephen will only love you; if she’s back, you will be left alone again.”
Ethan’s words echoed in Rachel’s ears, and her eyes widened in realization.
“You’re right. If she’s back, I will have nothing left,” she said to herself in a shaky tone. “Snow cannot come back. I don’t want her back! I don’t want to see her for the rest of my life!”
George was shocked. He had brought Rachel along to convince Ethan to reveal Snow’s location, yet a few words from Ethan had shaken Rachel’s resolve, and she no longer wanted Snow to return.
