Just then, her phone rang. When she picked it up and saw it was from Stephen, she was overjoyed.
“He called me. He must miss me!”
With hope in her chest, Rachel answered the phone.
“Bitch!”
Stephen’s curse stunned Rachel. Why was he yelling at her all of a sudden?
“W–What did I do?”
Rachel’s voice trembled. He had not apologized the last time he hit her, and now he was yelling at her. Her heart felt like it was shattering into pieces.
“You know very well what you did. Where’s Snow? Put her on the phone!” Stephen
snapped.
Rachel suddenly understood. Stephen had been trying to contact Snow but could not get through, so he thought she was mistreating Snow.
“I haven’t seen her much since you went to Aqua City.” Rachel’s voice was low. “I haven’t done anything to her. In fact, I haven’t seen her in days. Believe me!”
Stephen paused, surprised.
Rachel had not been bullying Snow? She had not seen Snow for days?
“Find her immediately!” Stephen demanded before abruptly ending the call.
The frustration of not being able to contact Snow completely overshadowed the excitement he had felt earlier about the upcoming sports games..
