Chapter 145
25 BOWS
Hearing the question made Stephen’s heart shik. He had a feeling that if he found out the truth, there might be no turning back. Hence, he did not dare ask anymore.
He looked down in silence, avoiding eye contact with Ethan. He did not want to talk to Ethan anymore. In fact, he wanted to leave.
Ethan had some strange things he could not understand, and Snow looked defeated. If he stayed any longer, who knew what else Ethan would say?
“Snow, let’s go.”
He scooped Snow into his arms and turned on his heels, practically running from the place as if his life depended on it.
Back in the car, Stephen glanced at Snow, who still sat there, blank and lifeless, and his
heart ached.
“What did he mean by all that? Why are you reacting like this?”
Desperate for answers, he quickly brought Snow to the hospital for a checkup.
The doctor came back with the results. “She’s traumatized. Take her back and make sure she gets enough rest. With care, she should recover soon.”
Traumatized?
Stephen thought he heard the doctor wrong. How bad could it have been for her to end up like that?
Nevertheless, he brought Snow back to the Lowes‘ residence, and when he arrived home, he saw Rachel on the couch, looking aggrieved. Stephen paid her no mind, taking Snow straight to his room without so much as a word.
Rachel teared up after receiving silent treatment. He did not even look at her. The days with Stephen might have been over before she knew it.
“Snow, what’s wrong? Please talk to me. I’m Stephen Quinn, and my family has the power to allow me to do whatever I want. I can help you. Just talk to me.”
Snow’s eyes flickered, a trace of life returning to her face.
She asked, “Can you bring people back from the dead?”
Stephen was silenced by the question. It was impossible.
Snow feebly said, “My parents died when I was little, and I just found out they died in a famine.”
“What?”

Stephen was shocked to learn that her parents had died in a famine. In that case, who was
Oliver Fox?
He quickly assumed Oliver was Snow’s adoptive father and was starting to understand Snow’s conversation with Ethan earlier. Ethan was talking about Snow’s parents and how they died a long time ago.
Stephen hugged Snow tightly and whispered, “It’s going to be okay. You have me. I will take care of you.”
Snow’s lips curled into a bitter smile. She knew Stephen loved her, but she knew her place. She had committed too much wrong and was beyond redeemable. The only ending she would receive was a lifetime behind bars.
Little did she know that Ethan used her once more. Ethan knew Stephen liked her and that she had started to develop feelings for the fool. With just a few words, Ethan had turned her into the most lethal weapon against Stephen.
If he forced Stephen to put her behind bars, what would he do? If Snow decided to take her life while in prison, just so she could lift the burden off Stephen’s shoulders, how would he react?
Ethan had been on Drakthorn Ridge the entire time, yet he had completed his plan against Stephen.
Snow did not say a word. She simply pushed him away softly.
Stephen froze for a moment, surprised that she pushed him away, but why?
Snow forced a smile and said, “I’m fine now. Thank you.”
He breathed a sigh of relief. “Are you sure?
“Yeah. I must get over this. I can’t change the past anyway. We have to look forward and cherish the present.
“Oh, right. Don’t you have some important matters to deal with in Aqua City? You can’t be away for too long. Aqua City needs you.‘
Stephen wanted to spend more time with Snow, but just then, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen and saw the mayor calling.
