Chapter 7
Simon laughed coldly.
“Dream on!”
“She’s mine. The only way you’ll take her is over my dead body.”
With those words, the two sides clashed again.
This would only end with both sides badly hurt the last thing I wanted.
I grabbed a guard’s knife and held it to my own throat, shouting: “Stop!”
Simon turned, his eyes bulging with terror: “Yara, that’s dangerous. Put the knife down.”
I pushed the blade closer: “Simon, let us go, or you’ll only be taking my corpse back with you.”
Simon’s teeth nearly cracked from clenching so hard, his voice filled with reluctance: “Yara, I found you first. You promised you’d never leave me.”
“I changed my mind.”
“What did you say?”
Simon couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
The girl who had once looked at him with adoration, who had promised never to leave his side, was now saying she had changed her mind.
Looking directly into his eyes, I emphasized each word: “I said, I changed my mind.”
“Simon, I’m grateful you saved my life as a child, but I’ve repaid that debt tenfold, risking my life for
you
countless times. We’re even now.”
“No!”
Simon pointed angrily at Liam: “It’s because of him, isn’t it? You’ve fallen for him?”

“You’ve barely known him. Do you really understand who he is or what kind of wolf he is?”
This was the second time Simon had asked me this question.
I shook my head: “Simon, what’s between us has nothing to do with anyone else. I don back simply because… I don’t love you anymore.”
From the day I left, I never intended to return.
That place held nothing but pain and torment for me.
He seemed unprepared for this answer.
want to go
The blade cut into my skin, drawing blood, but I felt nothing: “Let me go, or take my corpse back with you. Choose.”
Hearing this, Simon stumbled backward.
He stared at me silently, then suddenly laughed–a laugh filled with desolation and grief.
After a long while, he lowered his head, seeming to age a decade in an instant, his voice hoarse beyond recognition.
“Let them… go.”
I hadn’t expected Simon would actually let us leave.
Liam urgently pulled me onto his embrace.
We ran for what seemed like hours until we reached a lakeside, where he tenderly bandaged my neck, scolding me for being too reckless.
I looked at him: “Liam, I don’t deserve your kindness
Liam flicked my forehead playfully.
“Silly wolf, no one deserves it more than you.”
The pain made me wince, but something compelled me to ask: “Liam, do you have feelings for me?”
His hand paused in applying the bandage, his ears turning red, but his eyes met mine with

unwavering certainty.
“Yes, Yara. I love you. I want you to be my Luna.”
I hadn’t expected such directness.
My voice cracked: “Liam, we’ve known each other less than a year, and besides, Simon and I…
“You’re wrong.”
Before I could finish, Liam interrupted me.
“Yara. I’ve known you much longer than you realize.”
“What do you mean?”
I looked at him in confusion, unable to recall meeting him before.
Until he said: “When I was ten, I accompanied a diplomatic envoy to Silver Ridge. I got lost and met a little she–wolf crying by herself. She showed me the way back.”
With his reminder, the memory surfaced.
I had made a mistake and been punished by Simon, hiding away to cry when a young boy squatted beside me and offered me a piece of candy.
Incredibly, that boy had been Liam, and he had recognized me instantly when we met again.
Seeing my recognition, Liam smiled gently: “Though you can be stubborn and overthink things sometimes, I find you wonderful in every way. Losing you was Simon’s greatest mistake.”
“Yara, give me a chance, will you? I promise to treat you well”
I felt something stir within me, wanting to accept, but thoughts of my past with Simon held me back.
I told Liam everything honestly, holding nothing back
To my surprise, Liam seemed relieved: “So that’s what was bothering you?”
“Let me tell you a story”

I nodded.
“My mother was mated to another wolf before she met my father.”
“After the mating ceremony, she managed the entire household alone, but her mate was abusive, beating her whenever he drank.”
“She endured for two years before finally leaving him. Soon after, she met my father and gave birth
to me.”
“Do you think my mother was at fault?”
I shook my head.
He pulled me into a gentle embrace: “Similarly, what happened between you and Simon wasn’t your fault. You don’t need to feel unworthy because of it.”
1 hesitated briefly.
Liam was right. I had simply loved the wrong person at the wrong time.
I couldn’t change the past, but I could try for a different future,
But, instead of joining another pack and to be someone’s Luna, I really want to do something I longer for all the time.
“Liam, I don’t want to be a killer anymore, I want to be a doctor who can save other people’s lives.”
Meeting my gaze, he seems made a difficult decision, but finally said, “No problem. I will always wait for you. Until you to be My Luna.”
That day, Simon sent a gift through a messenger.
When I opened it, I found the dagger he had once given me.
I placed it in storage where it gathered dust.
I was no longer the shadow guard who lived on the edge of danger–I no longer needed such a
weapon.
Later, I heard that Lyra had somehow angered Simon and was stripped of her Luna status.

But none of that concerned me anymore.
Because I have found my heart’s desire.
