Grayson’s POV- 

Two months, 

To say I was shocked was an understatement. But I couldn’t let anyone see it. As much as the weight of those words hit me like a ton of bricks, I had to hold it together. I needed to keep my position, to keep my compostire. 

Two months gone–vanished–when it should’ve been no more than two days, How? My mind was racing, filled with questions that had no answers. The world seemed to tilt, and for moment, I closed my eyes, leaning back in my chair as I tried to gather my thoughts. 

My wolf was still silent or gone. But strangely, that wasn’t my biggest concern. Deep down, I felt like he wasn’t lost forever, that he would come back. But for now, I needed to focus on the ere and now–on finding the loophole in all of this madness. 

Opening my eyes, I grabbed my phone, shoving the chaos of my thoughts to the back of my mind. The screen lit up the moment I plugged it in, and a flood of notifications poured in. Hundreds–no, thousands–of missed calls, texts, and emails. The phone vibrated endlessly in my hand, and the sheer volume of messages was overwhelming. 

One message caught my eye. 

Luther Pierce. 

I didn’t even know how he got my number, but the message was clear: 

‘Stop this nonsense and bring my daughter back.‘ 

My jaw tightened as I stared at the words. Was he actually concerned for Ava? Or was this just another angle he was playing? A way to throw threats my way and test my resolve? Whatever it was, I wasn’t interested. I ignored his message, just as I ignored the rest–the board members, the acquaintances, everyone who probably didn’t care if I never came back. 

I scrolled through my contacts until I found the number I was looking for. Dialing Carter, I leaned back again, letting the phone ring as I tried to keep my head clear. 

The call connected, and Carter’s familiar drawl came through the line. “I knew you weren’t dead. I have to admit, though, I was slightly worried.” 

I exhaled sharply, not in the mood for his usual antics. “I need you to stop looking for Ava’s sister.” 

There was a pause, and then he asked, “You don’t even want to know if I found her?” 

Did I? The question hung in the air, heavy with implications. What would I even do if she was found? Would I go after her? Risk everything–the pull, the consequences of marking her, the complications that would arise? No, it wasn’t worth it. I had to find another way to break the curse. 

“No,” I said firmly. “I don’t want to know. If you haven’t found her, stop looking.” 

Carter let out a long sigh. “Well, it’s a good thing I never started in the first place.” There was a pause, and then he added, “I’m slightly glad you’re not dead, by the way. But next time you take your wife on a disappearing getaway, maybe give a heads–up to those of us who might actually care.” 

And then he hung up. 

I didn’t even have time to let out a breath of relief before a knock sounded at the door. I sat up straighter, opening my mouth to say “come in,” but the door burst open before I could get the words out.

Chapter 155. 

Ricardo strolled in, Rickon trailing behind him. 

There he is. Ricardo said, grinning like this was all some grand joke. 

His voice sent a wave of irritation crashing through me. My head ached, and I was in no mood for his antics. 

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Ricardo frowned, tapping his temple. “Oh, wait. Let me guess—you forgot we agreed to align. Don’t worry. I don’t blame you. Two months is kind of long time.” 

His nonchalance sent my irritation boiling over. 

“I remember because we had that conversation three days ago,“snapped. “And I wasn’t gone for two months. It was a day- two days at most. And I need everyone to shut up about two months because I need to think.” My gaze focused on icardo. “And why aren’t you in Italy?” Then to Rickon. “And why are you wo even together? Actually, don’t answer that. Just leave. Who even let you in here?” 

The two of them exchanged a look, and then Ricardo spoke, histone surprisingly serious. “That has to be the most words I’ve ever heard you say in one breath. Maybe you should go lie down.” 

My irritation spiked further. “What are you, my babysitters now I didn’t ask to see or speak to anyone, and-“I pointed at Ricardo. “I don’t want you anywhere near Ava. Leave.” 

I was losing control, and I hated it. If I thought things were slipping through my fingers before, now it felt like everything was spiraling. 

But instead of leaving, the two of them moved forward and sat down, completely ignoring my command. 

It was Rickon who spoke first, his one calm but pointed. “What do you mean you were only gone for two days? Where were you?” 

I glared at them both, reluctant to answer. But I could see the seriousness in their expressions–something I wasn’t used to from either of them. For once, they weren’t treating this like a joke. 

Letting out a heavy breath, I leaned back, forcing myself to speak. “It was supposed to be two days. I don’t know what happened. One moment, I was dealing with human hunters after Ava was captured by them in her wolf form. I had followed her and killed them all. And then suddenly, we were in this place. This very very weird place where the trees were alive and closing in.” 

I paused, my mind flashing back to the memories. “There was this… creature. A wolf–like creature. And Ava-” My voice faltered as I remembered. “She jumped in front of me. The next thing I know, we’re here. And two months have passed.” 

Rickon and Ricardo exchanged another glance, their expressions unreadable. 

“What happened in the last two months?” I asked reluctantly. 

Ricardo leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “You’ve been missing. No one knew where you were. At first, it was rumors–speculation. But then it escalated. You were tagged as missing. The realm has been restless and expected, Alphas are already gunning for power. I would have too but being Aloha King just sounded like too much work.” 

Then Rickon continued, “Plus if you disappeared, any smart person would know you would reappear and I didn’t want to be on the bad side of that reappearance.”

Ricardo took over, “So we thought we would do you a solid for when you did come back and keep an eye on things and the realm might not have plunged into outright chaos, there were no more attacks but I could feel it ready to implode and then your company. My source said the board has been circling like vultures. Trying to position themselves. Some of them even started making moves like you weren’t coming back.” 

Rickon continued from there, “And underneath, Luther’s been stirring things up, claiming you kidnapped his daughter and has probably killed her just like he knew you were really behind the attacks even if everyone was choosing to turn a blind

eye. He’s been sending out feelers, trying to get allies on his side un no one really knew the truth:

This is a fucking mess,” I muttered, more to myself than to them then I rose to my feet. 

Liam would have been the one I expected this from trying to hold things together and being the first one in here the moment I arrived. Definitely not these two. 1 glanced at Rickon and Ricardo again. Definitely not these two, but f begrudgingly admitted, deep down, that I appreciated them stepping up, even if it was unexpected. 

Sull, I needed to find Liam. 

“Where are you going?” they asked in unison, their timing so precise it made me pause. I made a mental note: separating these two might be a priority, because one of them was irritating enough on his own. Together? Their usual antics were an overdose of chaos. 

“I need to find Isiam,” I said, brushing past them and stepping out of the study. I needed to change out of these worn clothes and start working to get back on top of things. Too much time had been lost already, and I needed answers. But before I could take another step, they shared one of their wordless looks again–a silent exchange that sent irritation flaring up my spine. 

It was Rickon who spoke first. “About that circling of the board I mentioned earlier? Liam was leading it.” 

My steps faltered. That caught my attention. Liam, leading a move against the board? But before I could even ask, Ricardo chimed in, and what he said next hit me like a blow to the chest. 

“Oh, and one more thing,” Ricardo said, almost casually, as though what he was about to say wasn’t going to throw me completely off balance. His expression was unusually serious now, his usual grin gone. 

“While you were gone, Liam and your cousin had a mating ceremony.”
