By the time lunch was over, Suzy had sneezed multiple times. Claude glanced at her with concern. “Are you feeling unwell?”
“No…” Suzy rubbed her nose. “Maybe the food’s just too spicy. Does this restaurant give. away their chili for free or something?”
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Really, I’m fine!”
Despite her insistence, Claude poured her a cup of warm water. “Here, drink some warm
water.”
“Warm water for cramps, warm water for a cold–is it just a universal guy thing to think warm water can cure everything?” Suzy accepted the cup with a bit of mock disdain but took a sip anyway. “Works for me, but if you ever meet a woman you like, don’t pull that
move; it’s a major turn–off.”
Claude’s gaze darkened slightly. “Is that so?”
Suzy leaned in, her expression turning curious and playful. “That look in your eyes was a little suspicious just now… Who is she?”
Claude chuckled. “There’s no one.‘
“I don’t believe you!” Suzy pouted. “You’re not even going to tell your little sister?”
Claude looked at her with a complex expression, a slight smile playing on his lips as he answered half–jokingly, “Nope.”
“So, there is someone?” Suzy’s curiosity only grew. “How long has this been going on?”
“It’s been years.”
“Years, and you’ve never mentioned it to me? I thought of you like a real brother, and kept this from me all this time…”

Claude’s expression shifted as he looked at her,
“And what about you?” he asked suddenly, his tone serious. “Is there anything you’re hiding from me?”
Suzy nearly choked on her water, coughing. “I knew I couldn’t keep it from you for long. It’s not that I didn’t want to tell you; I just didn’t know how or if it was worth mentioning. It’s all in the past now, so I didn’t think there was any point.”
Claude looked straight at her. “Is it really all in the past?”

“Of course!” Suzy replied without hesitation. “You, of all people, should know my character. I never regret any decision I make.”
Claude pressed his lips together. “What if Dylan changes his mind?”
“That’s his problem, not mine,” Suzy said with a sarcastic smile. “It’s not like I’m
desperate enough to cling to a man who’s as useless as a wilted weed.”
Their conversation drifted out just as Dylan, approaching the partition, caught the last part of it. Victor, following close behind, noticed Dylan had stopped abruptly.
“Come on, man, why’d you stop?” Victor asked puzzled.
Hearing Victor’s voice, Suzy instinctively looked over, locking eyes with Dylan outside the door.
Claude turned as well, and the three exchanged dark, unreadable glances.
Victor followed Dylan’s gaze and peered into the room. “Whoa, is this some kind of…. caught–in–the–act situation?”
Not knowing about the divorce, Victor assumed Suzy had been cheating on Dylan, and, feeling the need to stand up for his friend, he pushed open the slightly ajar door.
“Well, look who it is the new heir of the Harlow family…” Victor crossed his arms as he stepped inside. “Enjoying a meal with someone else’s wife, I see. Classy.”
Suzy shot him a disdainful look. “Correction: Ex–wife.”
Victor turned to Dylan. “Wait, you two are divorced?”
“As Dylan’s closest friend, you didn’t know?” Suzy smirked with mockery.
“…Dylan, what the hell, man? You got divorced and didn’t say a word? I’ve been walking around like an idiot thinking she was cheating on you!”
Though clearly annoyed, Victor shifted his scom back to Suzy. “Impressive, Miss Frost. After divorcing Dylan, you immediately got close to the Harlow family.”
“I just know a little. Not that impressive!” Suzy laughed. “Want me to teach you how I do it, Mr. Steele?”
Victor sneered; eyeing her new self–assured demeanor. “No wonder Dylan said you were just pretending before. I even stuck up for you but looks like he was right all along.”
“So sorry to disappoint, Mr. Steele,” Suzy replied coolly.
“You-”
Victor realized he couldn’t keep up with Suzy’s sharp tongue. This woman was far more of a match than he had expected.
