Suzy decided not to tell Claude about the patent application for the project just yet. Nor did she plan to mention Dylan’s interference. If she could keep things off his plate, she would; all he needed was to stay positive and focus on his recovery.
After two rounds of therapeutic baths and physical therapy, his legs were slowly beginning to regain sensation. No matter what it took, she was determined to see him walk again.
Speaking of this, Suzy calculated the time–it was well past when Anne’s condition should have flared up, yet there was no news. She called Allen.
“There might be some changes on Anne’s side. Keep an eye on things.”
“I was just about to tell you!” Allen replied from the other end. “Anne’s condition flared up, and she’s in the hospital now. Helena notified Dylan right away, but who knows if he’ll show up.
Allen spat bitterly, “That old hag, Helena, can’t she see that Dylan’s attitude toward Anne has completely changed?”
Suzy chuckled. “Could that just be your imagination?”

“I’ve been preparing for this for over a decade. I’m more than ready.”
Even over the phone, Suzy could feel the seething hatred in Allen’s voice.
“Then enjoy yourself.”
After hanging up, Suzy pulled up the feed from the surveillance in Anne’s hospital room.
The Wheeler family owned a hospital, including a private suite reserved for Anne, where Suzy had long ago arranged to have cameras installed.
“Mom, it hurts… it hurts so much…”
On the screen, Anne’s pained cries filled the room.
“We’ve run every test; her vitals are all perfectly normal, so why is she in such agony?” Helena murmured, watching Anne writhe in unbearable pain on the hospital bed, her face filled with distress.
Standing off to the side, William looked at the medical staff, his face tight with worry. “Is this the best you can do? Don’t just stand there! Run the tests again!”
The hospital director, feeling helpless, could only continue to order more tests for Anne.

Meanwhile, Suzy, munching on her popsicle, watched the scene with amusement. “Since she loves putting on a show, I’ll let her have all the stage time she wants!”
In fact, even Anne herself had no idea what was happening this time, as the memory of being drugged in the basement had been wiped from her mind.
After a few minutes, Suzy grew bored and was about to turn off the feed when Dylan appeared on the screen.
His tall frame filled nearly the entire view.
Finishing the last bite of her popsicle, Suzy casually tossed the stick into the trash before closing the monitor. “Allen may not be much of a man after all.”

Dylan had loved Anne for so many years; feelings like that wouldn’t just disappear overnight. His recent distance was probably only due to being preoccupied.
After all, he was currently trying to get involved in new energy development.
Fortunately, Suzy had long since severed any wishful thinking about him; otherwise, she might’ve been fooled by Allen’s nonsense!
The moment Dylan stepped into the hospital room, Anne burst into tears. “Mr. Dylan, it hurts so much. I don’t know what’s wrong–I’m in constant pain. Please, you have to help, me!”
Though the Scarlet Veil poison had been secretly neutralized under the cover of Lilian, and her body had returned to normal, an intense, unbearable pain had suddenly struck Anne that morning.
It was a pain that seemed to cut through to the bone.
Every inch of her body ached. Both she and her mother suspected it was a side effect of the Scarlet Veil, but even her mother couldn’t reach the person who’d supplied the antidote.
With no other option, she had come to the hospital, hoping for at least some relief. Yet, nothing seemed to work–not painkillers, not sedatives.
Dylan, however, didn’t respond to her cries. He simply cast her a glance before turning his attention to William. “Do you need me to dispatch a team from Wright Hospital?”
William considered for a moment and then nodded. “Thank you, Mr. Dylan.”
