Chapter 0092
Dylan let out a dry laugh. “As you just mentioned, she’s my ex–wife. To me, she’s nothing more than a stranger now.”
A stranger…
That was exactly the outcome she had wanted, yet somehow, an inexplicable heaviness pressed against her chest.
Suppressing the unwelcome feeling, Suzy replied softly, “Thank you for your honesty, Mr. Wright. But as for our partnership, I’ll need to give it further thought. I know you’re busy, so I won’t take up any more of your time. Once I’ve made a decision, I’ll have my assistant reach out.”
Dylan paused briefly, then stood up. “I’ll await your reply.”
The moment he stepped out, Desmond, who had been waiting by the door, immediately asked, “Sir, did she agree?”
Dylan didn’t answer.
Instead, he strode toward the elevator a short distance away. Once inside, he spoke in a low voice. “Find out who leaked the information about my connection with Suzy.”
Very few people knew about his history with her, yet that woman had uncovered it so quickly. Someone was clearly stirring the pot.
Desmond looked puzzled. “Wasn’t this meeting about collaboration? What does it have to do with Mrs. Wright?”
It wasn’t until he finished speaking that he realized. “Does she also think you’re entering renewable energy just to compete with Claude over Mrs. Wright?”
Dylan glanced at him. “Also?”
Desmond quickly waved his hands. “I’ve never thought that! Renewable energy development is purely for Wright Corporation’s growth. It has nothing to do with Mrs. Wright.”
Dylan said nothing further, and Desmond bit his lip, muttering inwardly, “Of course, exactly what it’s about!”
that’s
As the elevator descended, Dylan’s gaze shifted slightly. “It doesn’t matter what others. think. Just keep an eye on Suzy; she might start imagining things again.”
Desmond was left speechless. “Mr. Dylan’s talent for indirect hints is getting sharper by the day.”
If he wanted Suzy to know, he could just say it outright. Why the need for all these
roundabout tactics? But then again, Suzy wasn’t someone he could simply see whenever he wanted anymore…
A thought suddenly struck Desmond. He realized there was someone perfectly suited for the job.
Back in the room, Suzy stepped off the balcony after Dylan’s departure. At the door lay the items Desmond had left behind–an assortmetit of luxury gifts.
During their marriage, he had never given her anything, but now he seemed eager to please a “stranger.”
It was a pity she had no interest whatsoever.
So, when Suzy left, she didn’t take a single item with her.
The only reason she’d agreed to meet Dylan today was to test the waters, to see what he was really after. There was no way he could have been hoping for some reconciliation. Nor did it seem to stem from wounded pride.
As he’d said, renewable energy development was indeed a trend in future technology. It made sense that he’d want to seize an early advantage in the field. Unfortunately for him, she wasn’t about to give him that opportunity.
This share was meant for Claude alone. Dylan had neither the chance nor the right to partake in it.
In the elevator, as they were nearing the underground parking lot, it finally dawned on Desmond. “Sir, I left the car keys with that pile of gifts in the room.”
With so many items in hand, he hadn’t noticed when he set them down.
Dylan shot him a slightly displeased look but said nothing.
Desmond quickly pressed the button to return to their floor.
And, as if by some twist of timing, the moment the elevator doors opened, they saw Suzy stepping out of Room 1008.
Desmond called out instinctively, “Mrs. Wright…”
