The phrase “You should know who you’re messing with” made Claude’s gaze darken. ” What kind of explanation are you looking for, Uncle?”
“That depends on what kind of compensation you’re willing to offer.” Martin was a master of manipulation. “I may not be the most powerful figure in Ashbourne City, but I do have a reputation to maintain. My wife and daughter were hit in public like this–if word gets out, people might start to question…”
Suzy interrupted, “I haven’t even explained the reason, yet you’re already demanding compensation. Isn’t that a bit hasty, Mr. Wheeler? Or is it just because my position is beneath yours that, even if I was acting in self–defense, I should still face unfair consequences?”
“We didn’t do anything to you, and you just came at us…” Helena wailed, clutching her face. “Everyone here can judge for themselves. She claims it was self–defense, but we’re the ones hurt while she doesn’t have a scratch on her!”
“Like mother, like daughter,” Suzy thought.
She used to think Anne’s acting skills were self–taught, but now it was clear they ran in the family.
Anne raised an eyebrow at Suzy, feigning innocence, to which Suzy gave a silent, icy smile. “So, no visible injuries on me automatically mean you did nothing wrong?”
“Then tell us, what exactly did we do to you?” Anne challenged, stepping closer. “If you’re going to accuse us, let’s see some proof. If you can show it was self–defense, we’ll drop it.”
“Oh, really?” Suzy’s lips curved in a smirk. “When the argument started, we were in a public restroom. There are security cameras in that area. Why don’t we pull the footage and let everyone see what really happened that led me to defend myself?”
Ane glanced quickly at Helena, who gave a subtle nod. “Fine, pull the footage. I’ll go right
now.”
Suzy made no move to stop her, a glint of determination flashing briefly in her eyes.
After a while, Anne returned with a technician from the security team in tow. “I brought the proof you wanted. Shall we play it now?”
Suzy nodded. “Of course. How else will I clear my name?”
“Alright then,” Anne said, signaling the technician. “Please, go ahead.”
The technician set up his laptop and pressed play, but the screen remained blank.
“Why isn’t there anything here?”

The technician fiddled with the equipment, starting to sweat as he tried repeatedly but found no footage at all.
Anne’s face paled as she whispered to the technician, “What’s going on?”
“I…I don’t know,” he stammered, then blurted “I swear I didn’t delete that part…” Realizing his slip, he quickly clamped a hand over his mouth, but the damage was done.
Suzy raised an eyebrow. “If I’m not mistaken, you just said you didn’t delete that part. So, does that mean Miss Wheeler here took so long because she was telling you to delete certain footage?”
“No, I didn’t- I didn’t do anything!” Anne protested quickly, her voice tight. “You’re making things up”
“Oh, you’didn’t?” Suzy replied coolly. “Well, no one else knows the truth…”
She pointed at the technician. “Other than him.”
The crowd’s gaze turned wary, suspicion coloring their looks toward Anne.
Having made her point, Suzy didn’t intend to let Anne off that easily. She approached the technician with a calm smile that somehow made him shiver. “I know a bit about computers myself. Would you like to recover the data, or shall I do it?”
Though her tone was light, the technician felt a chill run down his spine. “I…I…”
Claude’s voice cut in sharply, his gaze fierce. “Hand her the laptop.”
Sweat beaded on the technician’s forehead as he hurriedly passed the laptop to Suzy.
Anne and Helena exchanged uneasy glances, confident that the footage had been thoroughly erased. They didn’t believe Suzy had the skill to recover it; surely, she was only trying to intimidate them.
But as they shared a silent look, the screen suddenly lit up, showing clear footage of them tailing Suzy into the restroom.
“That Suzy just went into the restroom,” Helena’s voice whispered on the recording. “In a minute, we’ll trap her inside and teach her a proper lesson…”
