Downstairs in the lobby.
After changing out of her outfit and looking composed, Suzy pretended she’d just come back from the restroom as she searched for Claude. To her surprise, she spotted him from afar, surrounded by a group of people.
Worried he might be having trouble, especially since he’d recently been injured, Suzy hurried over. As she got closer, she caught snippets of the conversation.
“Is this really how you treat your guests, dear nephew?” Martin demanded from the center of the crowd, his voice thick with anger as he confronted Claude. “Or is there something you’re holding against me? If so, just say it.”
Meanwhile, Helena clung to his arm, whining pitifully, “Darling, I feel like fainting…”
Suzy quickly pieced together the situation. She had to admit she’d been a bit impulsive today. But seeing Helena and Anne parading in front of her had ignited her anger, and any sense of restraint had gone up in flames. She’d already hit them, and there was no taking it back.
Just as she moved to push through the crowd, a hand gripped her arm.
That familiar touch–Suzy didn’t need to turn to know it was Dylan. Sure enough, when she glanced back, there he was, with Anne at his side, eyeing her with a smug expression.
“By the look on your face, I’d say you’re up to speed on what happened,” Suzy said coolly, meeting his gaze. “What’s this–coming to defend your future mother–in–law?”
Dylan’s eyes narrowed slightly. “You really think Claude can protect you?”
To strike Anne and Helena in a place like this, her audacity had grown significantly. The Suzy before him was nothing like the gentle, composed woman she used to be–she seemed like a completely different person.
“Better than someone who never did,” Suzy shot back, immediately regretting it. The words had slipped out so casually, yet they sounded like an accusation.
Irritated with herself, she pulled her arm free and raised her voice. “I was the one who hit them.”
The crowd went silent, parting to let her through.
Locking eyes with Martin’s steely, predatory gaze, Suzy stepped forward without a flicker of expression.
Claude quickly wheeled himself in front of Suzy, blocking her path “Leave this to me. Just go.”

“Suzy!” Claude’s voice carried an unmistakable edge of frustration.

Claude’s face tightened with exasperation.
What a stubborn girl–she called him her brother but refused to let him share her burdens.
Dylan observed every interaction between Suzy and Claude, especially when she turned to Martin and declared, “I was the one who hit them. It has nothing to do with Mr. Claude.”
Suzy could barely hold her own, yet here she was, stepping up to shield Claude
She was utterly… reckless.
Martin’s eyes burned with anger as he faced Suzy. “Give me one good reason why you dared to strike my wife and daughter!”
“They deserved it.” Suzy’s voice was steady and clear. “Why else, in a crowd like this, would I go out of my way to hit them and no one else?”
Whispers rippled through the crowd.
“Well, they say it takes two to start a fight…”
“Whatever the case, this young lady is fearless. Imagine a simple caregiver daring to stand up to the wife of the Wheeler Corporation’s chairman! Instant fan.”
“Count me in as a fan!”
Anne nearly lost her temper hearing the murmurs around them. She exchanged a desperate glance with Helena before adopting a pained expression. “Even if we were in the wrong, couldn’t we have just talked it through? You could have hit me–I’m younger, I can take it. But my mother’s health is poor, and you went after her so brutally.”
Helena clutched her face dramatically. “Oh, my face! Darling, not only does my face hurt, my head’s pounding, and I can hardly hear!”
