Suzy was having lunch when she received a call from Elliot Seeing his number on the screen, she hesitated, not wanting to answer.
After all, she had just told him their mentor–student relationship was over.
She couldn’t just cut ties one moment and pick up his call the next. But the phone kept ringing, almost as if he was intentionally challenging her resolve.
When it rang for the third time, she finally pressed the answer button. To her surprise, the voice on the other end wasn’t Elliot’s, but a police officer’s.
“Do you know Elliot Hayes?”
“Yes, who’s this?” Suzy asked, not realizing it was the police at first.
“This is the police. I’m calling from the South Avenue precinct. May I know your name?”
Hearing it was the police, a small wave of panic crept into her chest. “My name is Suzy Frost. What happened to Elliot?”
“Mr. Hayes got into an altercation at a bar. We only found his ID and phone on him. He’s refusing to answer any of our questions, so our tech team had to unlock his phone.
“Your number was the only one listed–there’s nothing else in his contacts. We’re hoping you can come down to the station if you’re available.”
Something had happened to Elliot. There was no way Suzy could ignore it. Setting her lunch aside, she immediately stood up to leave.
In the same restaurant, Timothy and the fake Charlotte were seated nearby. Seeing Suzy suddenly rise, Timothy asked, “Where are you going?”
Suzy was taken aback that Timothy had even asked.
She had always thought he only cared about Charlotte and never noticed her existence. His unexpected question felt oddly warm, almost fatherly.
With a soft and gentle tone, she replied, “I have something to take care of. I’ll be heading out for a bit.”

What she didn’t expect was Timothy’s next comment: “When you come back, get a mango cake for Char.”
So, the concern wasn’t for her–it was all for Charlotte.

That fleeting warmth vanished entirely.
Without another word, Suzy turned and left, her mind already preoccupied with the uncertainty of Elliot’s situation.
When Suzy arrived at the station, she saw Elliot reeking of alcohol, his clothes stained with blood.
It was the first time she’d seen him in such a state.
He was someone who was meticulous about cleanliness, almost obsessive. His clothes were always spotless, and his demeanor was always impeccable. And now…
Suzy knew this mess was partly her fault.

And now here he was–not reflecting on his actions but getting drunk and brawling in broad daylight.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.

She stormed up to him, closing the distance in a few quick strides, and smacked the back of his head.
“Elliot, look at you! Not only are you out drinking, but you’re also picking fights? Since you’re so capable, why don’t you just fly to the moon?”
Elliot turned his icy gaze toward her, his expression devoid of warmth. “Who are you?”
Suzy, already furious, felt her anger spike at his attitude. “Who am I? You tell me!”
“How should I know who you are?” Elliot sneered coldly. “I don’t know you.”
“…Say that again!” Suzy demanded, her fists clenched.
Was this brat incapable of feeling remorse?
“I don’t know you,” Elliot repeated, staring her down without a hint of hesitation, enunciating every word deliberately.
