Without giving Dylan a chance to refuse, Linda. Lane darted off, chasing after Suzy.
It was already quite late, and Suzy was walking briskly By the time Linda caught up, Suzy was outside the gates, about to get into her car.
“Mrs. Wright, wait a moment…”
Seeing the housekeeper out of breath, Suzy assumed Grace had woken up and sent her.
“Mrs. Lane, tell Grace I’m still worried about my dad. ll come back another day to spend time with her.”
“Mrs. Wright, you misunderstood. The madam hasn’t woken up it’s Mr. Wright…” Linda looked flustered, unsure how to explain.
“What’s wrong with Dylan?” Suzy asked. He had seemed perfectly fine when she left.
“Mr. Wright…” Mrs. Lane hesitated, still embarrassed
“Mrs. Lane, just say it! What’s going on?” Suzy’s tone became firmer, growing impatient with the housekeeper’s stalling.
Seeing Suzy’s concern, Mrs. Lane took a deep breath and blurted out, “I gave Mr. Wright something he shouldn’t have had, and now he’s feeling very unwell. I thought maybe you could help him.”
“What exactly did you give him?” Suzy asked, confused.
Linda’s expression grew more complicated. She wasn’t just worried–there was a hint of embarrassment that made Suzy all the more curious.
“Well, it’s… something that men sometimes need…” Mrs. Lane stammered, nervously wringing her hands.
“Why would you give him that?”
Before the housekeeper could respond, realization dawned on Suzy. She pointed at herself. “Don’t tell me you were trying to set something up between me and him?”
“I can see it—you and Mr. Wright both still care about each other,” Linda said hurriedly, trying to explain. “I just thought this might help bring you two closer together…”
Linda rushed to reassure her. “Mrs. Wright, please don’t misunderstand. This was entirely my idea- neither Mr. Wright nor Madam Grace knew about it.
“When I told Mr. Wright after you left, he insisted on dealing with it himself and refused to let me come find you. But I couldn’t just leave him like that…”
“If I had the antidote, I wouldn’t have come looking for you. Earlier, while you were chatting with Madam Grace, I sneaked out to buy the medicine. Since I thought you’d be here, I didn’t bother getting the antidote.”
By the end of her explanation, Linda couldn’t even look Suzy in the eye, keeping her head low like a child caught misbehaving.

Suzy couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.
Without saying much, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a small white porcelain bottle. She shook out a small white pill and handed it to Linda. “Give this to Dylan, and make sure he drinks plenty of water. He’ll be fine afterward.”
Linda hesitated, not taking the pill. “It would be better if you gave it to him yourself, Mrs. Wright. While you’re at it, you could check if there are any side effects from the medicine I gave him. I truly wasn’t thinking clearly–I can’t believe I did something so foolish.”
She sighed deeply, her guilt palpable. “I’ve just been so worried seeing Madam Grace looking troubled every day. She never says anything to you, but deep down, she desperately hopes you and Mr. Wright will reconcile. She just doesn’t want to pressure you.
“Even though she seems cheerful, her health isn’t what it used to be. Lately, she’s been eating less and has been far weaker than before.
“Mrs. Wright, this is probably not my place to say, but I’ll set aside my pride for Madam Grace’s sake. Please, I beg you–give Mr. Wright another chance.”
“Mrs. Lane…” Suzy started, but before she could finish, Dylan’s voice cut in.
“This is between me and Suzy. I don’t want anyone to put pressure on her. I appreciate your good intentions, but this is something we have to resolve ourselves.”
