It wasn’t just an excuse–Grace truly had been thinking about Suzy lately. After all, it had been a long time since they’d seen each other.
Suzy had also been thinking about Grace and knew exactly what Dylan was trying to do.
The woman posing as Charlotte was one of his operatives, helping them for free, so…
“I’ll take you home,” Suzy said after a moment. “And I’ll visit Grace while I’m there.”
Dylan’s excitement was written all over his face. “Great!”
He hadn’t expected Suzy to be so accommodating this time. Throughout the day, her attitude toward him had been noticeably better than usual.
For the first time in a long while, Dylan felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, Suzy was on her way to fully forgiving him.
The drive was quiet, but the atmosphere was peaceful. Dylan cherished these calm moments with her. If only things could always stay like this.
But he knew he still had more work to do.
When they arrived at the Wright family estate, Grace was waiting in the living room. Fearing she might have gone to bed, Dylan had called ahead to let her know they were coming.
As soon as Grace saw Suzy, she rose quickly from the sofa, nearly running over to her. “Suzy!”
Afraid Grace might fall, Suzy hurried forward to steady her. “Take it slow!”
Grace took Suzy’s hands in hers, holding them tightly. “My dear, you’ve lost weight. Have you not been eating well? I know you’ve been through so much, and your heart must ache, but no matter what, your health comes first.
“From now on, make sure to take care of yourself. Let time handle the rest, alright?”
Grace’s words left Suzy with a bittersweet warmth in her heart, both comforted and pained by her concern.
To Suzy, Grace was like a safe harbor. No matter how much turmoil she faced outside, coming back here always meant warmth and comfort waiting just for her.

Throwing her arms around Grace, Suzy choked out, “Alright, I’ll listen to you, Grandma.”
“That’s my good girl,” Grace said gently, patting her back. “You’re staying here tonight. I have so much to talk to you about!
Without hesitation, Suzy replied, “Okay.”
Hearing that Suzy wouldn’t be leaving, Dylan’s heart skipped a beat, his excitement barely contained. But before he could relish the moment, Grace turned to him with a sharp tone. “Why are you still here?”
“Where would I go?” Dylan asked, already knowing the answer.
He knew Grace was still angry at him. Ever since she’d learned that Suzy had wanted to reconcile with him and he had rejected her, Grace hadn’t forgiven him.
It seemed that no matter a woman’s age, when she got upset, ignoring the source of her anger became her go–to tactic.
“Go wherever it is you belong!” Grace said, her face stern. “You’re so stubborn- why not go back to that and leave me in peace? You’re an eyesore just standing there!”
“Grandma, I’ve changed,” Dylan said earnestly. “I promise I won’t act like that ever again…”
Grace let out a cold laugh. “You know what they say ‘you reap what you sow.‘ You had your chance, and you ruined it. Now you want it back? Do you think people will just wait around for you forever?”
After her scolding, Grace took Suzy by the hand, ready to head upstairs. “Suzy, you’re right not to forgive him. A man who retreats at the first sign of trouble isn’t worth keeping around.
“I think that young man who’s been pursuing you lately is a good choice–he’s not only young but brave, too. Sure, his background might not be ideal, but this is a modern society. Who cares about such things anymore? You should consider it.”
Dylan, standing there speechless.
