Dylan hadn’t expected Allen to speak up for him.
He had assumed Allen was on Elliot’s side these days. But now, the more Dylan looked at Allen, the more he found him agreeable.
Once he and Suzy reconciled, he decided he would properly thank Allen.
With hope written all over his face, Dylan turned to Suzy, waiting for her
response.
Yet, while he might have been hopeful, he wasn’t overly optimistic. After all, Suzy was no longer the person she once was.
The current Suzy was an enigma to him–her thoughts and feelings were impossible to read. He didn’t even know if she still had feelings for him, or if, as she had said before, any desire to reconcile was only out of gratitude.
So when Suzy ignored Allen’s comment, Dylan wasn’t too disappointed.
At least she didn’t brush him off with the harsh words she used to say, and to Dylan, that was already progress.
Dylan almost felt sorry for himself. His standards had become so low.
In this world, only Suzy could make him like this.
Suzy noticed Dylan’s expectant gaze but chose to ignore it. Instead, she walked directly to Zack.
“Did you take my father?” she asked coldly.
“Don’t accuse me without proof!” Zack snapped defensively. “I have no grudge against your father. Why would I take him? Just because you can’t find him doesn’t mean you can pin it on me!”
“Then why go to such lengths to find someone to impersonate the man with white hair?” Suzy’s gaze was sharp as a hawk’s. “Zack Barker, I suggest you take advantage of the little patience I have left and come clean. If you don’t, your death will be far more miserable than anyone else’s.”
“What man with white hair? I have no idea what you’re talking about! Just because I was connected to Charlotte doesn’t mean you can pin every crime on me!” Zack sneered. “Let me be clear–I didn’t do anything. This is all Mia Collins trying to frame me. She’s been getting close to a certain man recently. She’s probably covering for him, so-”

Before he could finish, Suzy kicked him hard, sending him sprawling across the floor. Not giving him a chance to get up, she stepped on his chest with full force. “If you won’t talk, then you can die!”
“You can kill me if you want, but I’m telling the truth–I really don’t know where your father is!” Zack gasped, struggling for breath under Suzy’s foot but refusing to admit to anything.
“Fine. As you wish!” Suzy pressed down harder, her heel digging into his chest, as if she intended to crush his ribs.
Seeing that Suzy wasn’t bluffing, Zack finally panicked. “Alright, I’ll talk! I’ll talk!”
“Speak!” Suzy didn’t move her foot, instead increasing the pressure.
“Yes, I took your father, but it wasn’t under Charlotte’s orders. It was because…” Zack stared intently at Suzy. “Your father called me himself and told me to take him!”
“Lies!” Allen stepped forward, his expression furious. “The old man was poisoned with the Mind–Eater and had no ability to act on his own. How could he possibly call you?”
“He’s saying that to upset you,” Allen added, glaring at Zack. “Don’t think I don’t see through your petty games.”
Zack looked at Allen, unfazed by his anger. “Yes, he was poisoned, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t act independently. The only restriction the poison imposes is loyalty to its master. Beyond that, he’s just like a normal person. Everything you saw before was an act.
“Even those photos were staged by him–he posed for them and instructed me to send them to Suzy!”
