“But he’s not home recently,” the man explained. “I called him yesterday to ask why he hasn’t visited me these past few days, and he said he had some business to take care of out of town.”
“Did he say where he went?” Allen asked quickly. “Or when he’ll be back?”
“No, he didn’t say, and I didn’t ask. I’m not the type to pry into people’s personal matters. Even with close friends, I never ask questions I shouldn’t. Everyone has their privacy, and sometimes asking can put unnecessary pressure on others.”
“No wonder your friend deceived you,” Allen said, exasperated. “You’re such a straightforward guy, born to be tricked. Honestly, even I feel tempted to take advantage of you! Now, take out your phone and call him again. Ask him where he is.
“Not that he’ll necessarily pick up. Since we’ve found you, he’s probably already received word and might have even blacklisted you.”
“That’s unlikely,” the man said as he pulled out his phone and dialed the number.
But, just as Allen predicted, the call went unanswered. The man tried several more times with the same result.
“I can’t believe it! He really blocked me!” the man exclaimed angrily. “We grew up together, playing in the sandbox as kids. I never thought he’d betray me like this!”
“In this world, true friendships are rare,” Allen replied. “You mentioned he’s poorer than you, right? Someone must’ve offered him a hefty price, and that’s why he sold out your friendship.”
After a moment’s thought, Allen asked, “You said you’ve known him since childhood, so you must know him very well?”
“Yes! There’s probably no one in the world who knows him better than I do. Not even his wife knows him as well as I do!”
“So, it should be relatively easy for you to find him, right?” Suzy interjected.
The man nodded. “I know all his usual spots. If he’s still in the city, I can definitely find him!”
“Good. Then take us to look for him.”
They had already investigated and confirmed that the person was still in the city and hadn’t gone far. From the start, he had lied to the man.

When this was revealed, the man trembled with anger. “I really want to know how much money they offered him to make him betray a trust built over so many years!”
The exact amount didn’t matter for now; they needed to find him first.
They searched all the places he usually frequented but, surprisingly, didn’t find him anywhere.
“How is that possible?” the man exclaimed in disbelief. “These are his favorite spots! Especially this massage parlor–he comes here whenever he has free time, and he even has a girlfriend here. How could he not be here?”
“You know him well, but he also knows you. He’d know these are the first places you’d check,” Allen said. “There’s probably another place he’s never told you about
Allen hesitated before continuing, but given the circumstances, there was no point in holding back. “Maybe your friendship has always been one–sided. You cared, but he didn’t.”
“Damn it! I’m going to find that liar!”
A man scorned can be the most dangerous, and right now, this man was furious.
He led Suzy and Allen straight to the guy’s parents‘ house, and sure enough, the man was there.
When the man saw them, his expression changed instantly. “How did you know I was here?”
