Chapter 0626
“Just do as I say. Why so many questions?” Suzy said firmly.
Allen smirked. “There you go again, keeping things mysterious. Just like last time- this means you’re planning to act on your own again, doesn’t it?
“We’re a team, Suzy. You can’t keep shutting us out. Yes, this is about your father, and technically it’s a personal matter, but put yourself in our shoes. If it were one of our loved ones missing, would you just stand by and do nothing?”
“…I said one thing, and you’ve given me a whole speech.” Suzy rolled her eyes. “I’m not being secretive–I just don’t know yet.”
She smirked. “I noticed something off about her earlier, so I asked you to keep an eye on her. That’s all. As for what it’ll lead to, I know just as much as you do.”
Allen crossed his arms, still skeptical. “Fine, but I was half expecting you to sneak off again.”
“You’ve got some nerve,” Suzy shot back with a chuckle.
Allen sighed dramatically. “You don’t know how much Riley fretted the last time you went solo. It was nonstop with her–every single day. ‘What if something’s happened to Suzy? Is she hurt? Could someone be framing her? What if she’s in danger and has no one to help her?‘
“She’s like a broken record. My ears were about to fall off. And now that she’s pregnant, all this stress isn’t good for her or the baby. For the sake of my son’s health, you’re absolutely not allowed to act on your own this time!”
“Your son?” Suzy raised a brow and smirked, giving him a playful eye–roll. “And here I thought you actually cared about me. Turns out it’s all about your wife and kid!
“And seriously, Allen, you’ve changed so much. I used to be your number one. Now I’m so far down the list?”
Despite her teasing, Suzy felt a warm satisfaction seeing Allen’s transformation. It meant he’d finally moved on, and that brought her genuine relief.
Seeing Allen and Riley living happily together was exactly the outcome Suzy had always hoped for,
“What’s this, jealousy?” Allen teased with a laugh. “Don’t worry, there are plenty of people who put you first–like Dylan or your dear protégé. Those two are completely

obsessed with you!”
“Get lost!” Suzy retorted, though there was a faint smile on her lips.
The banter over, they returned to the matter at hand. “Did you notice how George’s mother didn’t seem surprised by his death? Suzy asked.
“Now that you mention it…” Allen frowned, thinking back. “She did seem odd. She looked upset, sure, but not shocked. Especially when I told her George had committed suicide–her first reaction wasn’t disbelief, just sadness. Almost like she already knew it was coming.”
“If there’s something suspicious about George’s death, it’s likely connected to Wendy.” Suzy’s tone was sharp. “Keep a close watch on her. No matter what she does, don’t let her out of our sight.”
“Got it.”
Two days of surveillance passed, but nothing unusual came up. Wendy buried George, arranging for him to be laid to rest alongside his father. After that, she packed up and returned to her hometown.
Reports from their team indicated everything in her hometown seemed normal, almost as if their suspicions had been unwarranted.
Suzy began to doubt herself. Had she overthought the situation? Maybe Wendy’s lack of surprise was simply due to her familiarity with George’s personality.
Just as Suzy was about to call her team back, Dylan brought her an important lead: Wendy and Charlotte had once lived in the same orphanage.
